What can I get with these? (sorry if spam)

I dont know much about Xbox Live or whatever gamer points or microsoft points are as I only have owned a PS3, but I just found a batch of these 50 dollar cards near a trash can scattered and when I saw they had 49.99 on them I thought I would pick them up and see whats this all about.

I have a couple of pictures, I have 19 of them I think, and one has been scratched off and used I suppose in some way, and another one has like a little piece of tape on it for some reason or something, and I was just wondering what are these for and what I can do with them, maybe sell?

Oh and sorry for the blurry images, i used my webcam (everyone is sleeping now, couldnt take my dads digital camera to take pics)

Well your best bet is to sell them at a cheeper price. But make sure you test/get someone to test one because they could have been tossed for a reason.

 

Well I guess I'll have to confirm using a freind of mine or something in that case. I wont be selling till I do this I guess. Any idea how I can make sure from looking at the card that they are valid? I mean they are unscratched and they look official from what I can tell? Like what would make them not work if indeed they were real?

If you want another way to test it, scratch of a code and give it to someone who has an xbox. This way you know the code was not scratched, so it could not have been used. Then have that person try to redeem it, and if it works, it will say such like 4000 MICROSOFT POINTS ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO REDEEM IT? And as long as they say No at the screen, the code can still be used elsewhere and you know its legit.

I know it sounds confusing, but if you need any help you can ask me with it.

EDIT: After looking over the pictures, it seems that my best guess is that they will not work. My reason being that usually the cards that are not in a plastic case, need to be activated at the stores cashregister. The ones that are in the plactic case considering you cant see the code. I assume they do this so people dont walk in, scratch off a code, and leave. I dobut they will work, unless someone activated all of these cards with a register and then threw them out, which i see as highly unlikely.

Im not 100% sure on this, i still think you should let someone try a non scratched off one. But thats just my two cents.

 

I'll definatley try that dude, and that cash register thing seems the only thing that could hinder the cards as invalid. I doubt they are fake, because ive seen these in stores this way without and plastic as well.

 

Everyone in this thread is just beating around the bush. They are used thats why they are thrown away/scattered any time the little cardboard strip has been removed that means they have been used. If it has been scratched that means they are used. They are basically useless. If they are still intact and not working that means that someone stole them and tried to redeem em which won't work. Microsoft has made it so you have to actually purchase it for it to work. It even says on the back of the card. That's another thing to watch out for some people will sell unscratched stolen Live cards so be careful.


edit: Well yea they are unscratched and wont work, that means they have been stolen and are useless unless you go to a store or THE store where they were from and actually try to purchase them. Also people tend not to buy the scratch ones because of the stealing scam and go for the cardboard strip ones! Good luck

 

Yeah i agree that they arent fake, but they probally wont work beacuse their stolen ect. and they were never activated.

 

Find someone who works at a store that can activate them, and have them active them all for you for free, haha.

 

Highly doubt they will work, scratch one and try one that's not scratched.

 

well i dont know if you read, but daniel that forum member tested the scratched one out and said it was already used up according to him. So that must mean they have been activated... but yah, i'll try an unscratched one with a friend and see how that goes.

 

Try em all and report back if there are any working...all you have to do is say do not redeem after you put it in.
