PS3 Official Price for Mexico: US$ 974 (20GB Version)

Looks like Sony doesn't like Mexicans very much, and doesn't want to share its next-gen console with them. The original
price of the PlayStation 3 in the US was some US$ 6-right? You'd expect that when they sell their console in a country which is much poorer they would have the decency of keeping the same price...

No! Not Sony! By the looks of it, they are planning to distribute some PS3s in Mexico, some of their 20GB PS3s to be exact. Joystiq reports that a Mexican will have to pay 10,495 pesos in order to get one of Sony's next-gens. At current exchange rates 10,495 pesos translates into US$ 974, almost one thousand bucks for a 20GB model. I guess it would be much more advantageous for Mexicans to buy them on eBay. They would avoid sitting in line and the whole shebang.

This Mexican price is even higher than the price of the PS3s distributed in the UK. Not to mention that UK inhabitants will get 60GB PS3s, these machines will cost GBP 425, meaning US$ 835. So, the price of a 20GB PS3 in Mexico is US$ 139 higher than the price of a 60GB PS3 in the UK. Niceeeee!

Just look of it this way: Mexico is clearly a much poorer nation than the Brits. A Brit makes 7 times more money than a Mexican does and they still have much cheaper consoles. Who decides these things? Are the Sony people that greedy? Or they simply hate Mexicans?

I dont see any explanation for it, the only thing I can think of is, that they know only the richest mexicans will buy one, and if they are rich, they can afford that.
