Military Draft

What is your opinion on it?
Should it ever be necessary for us to have one?

I personally do not agree with it, I think people should have to right to freely join the military, but only in some cases should they do this, in very seviur cases.

What do you think?

 

They only instate the draft if things are serious. I don't see why doing your country a service could be a bad thing, unless you are a selfish prick...

So by that logic, Germans who resisted being drafted in WWII were selfish pricks?

The draft is one of the worst forms of government coercion, it makes people risk their lives, for reasons that they neither necessarily support or comprehend.

 

Only under drastic circumstances should it be enforced and I believe the whole pearl harbor bullshit wasn't worth it as 2 bombs would have avoided a lot of deaths.

 

It is needed if your country needs more guys to fight... I mean, if we get into WWIII and no one is sighing up, then of course we will need to force them or we would lose... Otherwise, why force them... But you know, forcing everyone to go through training is not a bad idea... Then a country can spend less time getting people into conflicts.... :/

 

Yes, yes, refusing to be torn out of my life and shipped halfway across the world for any number of years to fight and murder people I have never met is incredibly selfish. God, man, how do I live with myself?

Draft should never happen, in my opinion. Joining the military and fighting in a war should not be forced upon someone.

I would refuse to the end, and yes you can call me a selfish prick.

Honestly, I wouldn't lift a finger to help anyone win a war.

 

I think drafts are HORRIBLE!!!
You are forced to kill people, even if you don't want to. If there are 2 things that I absolutely detest it's: forcing people to do something they don't want, and killing people.
If people want to join the military voluntary, it's their choice. I choose not to, so why should I go anyway?

No, the germans were attempting to commit genocide and take over the world. Even if you find the iraq war as immoral, nothing can compare to the Nazi's intentions.

There are exceptions to everything.

When your country needs you, and what they aim for is not to go and kill innocent people, or something so extremely immoral then you should serve your country. Also are you telling me that soldiers who have died for our country who have killed our enemies in afghanistan murderers?

 

If you live in a country and war is going on, then yes fucking draft for support. Even if they don't want to, if you live in that country then fight for it.

How the fuck is it selfish if you don't want to be drafted? By being drafted you are killing others you don't know, and you are risking your life.

 

Of course you don't want to be drafted, thats not selfish. But doging the draft, avoiding it and such, that is selfish. Its not a bad thing to have a draft, its a bad thing to avoid it or run away from the service.

 

the US military is bigger then ever. their trying to keep people out its so big. Doubt it....

 

Well we won't need it again, I can tell you that. We have a big military without forcing people to fight against their will. I forgot where I heard this but "One man willing to fight is worth 1,000 who are unwilling"

What good would you be in battle if you are unwilling to fight?

 

Usually if you are scared of something, you try to get away from it.

A lot of the people who would run away from " the service" are scared of going to war.

I am not afraid of war, no, but I am afraid of getting shot. If you tell me I've done a "bad thing" by running away from/dodging the draft if it ever were to happen again, I honestly have no problems being told so.

 

Yes I am calling you selfish for avoiding something you fear, some people are afraid of needles but they still need a hepatitis vaccine. Being afraid of going to war is only natural but if you are drafted you still need to serve your country, it is extremely selfish.

Why do you "need" to fight and possibly die whenever some old men wearing medals tell you to?

 

I couldn't agree with you more, don't you think it's selfish of the leaders who are in charge of the country to put so many lives on the line? If you don't want to kill people or don't want to die, it's okay to avoid it. Have any of you guys ever been to war or been drafted? Yes, you're male instinct tells you you should fight, but think with your brains.
