Do you guys think that animals have feelings and can think.

To me, I don't know, I mean I want to believe it, don't get me wrong. But Scientists say its just instincts and I really want to believe they think and have feelings like us.

i think they do... i mean the animals scream and moan when they feel pain... and i think they can think.. because when u have a pet... the next day.. ur pet doesnt bark at u as u were a stranger... it remembers u. i love animals and i seriously think they have fellings and that.

    Depends on the animal.
If I go and kick my dog, it'll be quite upset. Actually, I don't have a dog, only a metaphorical dog. Well, gtg, dog is barking, gotta bring it outside.

Feelings are mainly created by certain chemicals found in the brain. Animals have these chemicals, therefore we can safely assume that they have the same feelings.

The ability to think seems to be based on certain areas of the brain. Some animals have those areas of the brain, therefore they can probably think.

I have some to add to that. When you kick a dog or a cat they feel it. And when you don't feed them or yell at them they do cry. So I can very much safely assume they do feel.

of course they do, even fruit flies do. such as simple feeling like pain, like and dislike, not complex ones that Humans have like love. most animals also have greed, a common monkey trap is; cutting a whole in a coconut and putting fruit in it, the trick is to make it only so big that they can place their hands in, but not able to take their hands out with out giving up the fruit. I also think animals are much smarter than we thing, if you rate intelligence on perception of near future, you will find that billy goats wont climb on small rocks, cause they know small rocks won't hold.

    Absolutely.

Ever hear a dog whine, or moan? They are most likely hurting. Ever see their tail wag, lick your face? This is due to them being happy.

They react based on their feelings, not instinct (although instinct is some part of it). Also, what shredd said is correct, their chemical makeup is somewhat the same as ours.

They have thoughts of course. However, their emotions are probably not as complex as our emotions, but they do have emotions.

Could they follow commands and learn to be potty-trained if they could not think? And how could they react to your presence or actions if they had no feelings?

There is no doubt that animals think. Yet the feeling are sometimes doubted by some due to animals not being able to display their feelings like humans can.

Of course they do. You've never seen a whimpering dog on television or in real life when its in pain? And they can think. If they couldn't they would most likley just be a sitting duck. They know when their hungry or thirsty, but they gotta think to remember where the bowl of food and water is :p

I don't think this is an intelligent enough conversation for SFA. This is more of a General Discussion topic.

Animals have feeling's, Who really cares though...

Ex; You care for a puppy alot, give it what it need's, love it... Spend time with it, ect. And when you leave to go somewhere they look at you in a sad look, wondering where your going and why you are leaving them.

Of course animals have feelings and are capable of thinking. Suggesting anything else is ridiculous. Dogs (usually) loves their owners, and they show their affection by licking them in the face, whipping their tails, jumping on them, etcetera. They whine and moan if you yell at them, because they feel they've done wrong and their owner is upset.

They're definitely capable of thinking too, but only on a 2-dimensional, black-and-white plan. Meaning they won't be able to calculate things or think rationally, only simple things such as associating X with Z. If you get your dogs leash and call for it, it'll associate the leash the a walk and know it's going for one.

Pretty much on dead on right here. If they didn't think, they would walk around brain dead all the time. I know my animals respond when their name is called, so I'm pretty sure they are capable of thinking. As Finn also said, you can tell they have feelings by the way they act. If your dog takes a shit on the carpet, and you yell at him, and give him a bit of a whack, I'm sure he is going to realize what the hell is going on, and probably coward away until he feels you are comfortable with him again.

everything with a brain can think for themselves and has feelings, especially elephants, monkeys and gorillas.
