2012 "The end of the world"

I don't know if this has already been a post. So, sorry if I'm repeating.

There are just so many theories about 2012 and some of them sound really cool, but others like everyone dying, not so cool.
I just want to know everyone elses point of view towards December 21, 2012.

Is it going to happen,
not going to happen?

Or, different theories you've heard about 'the end of the world'

 

I have yet to see any evidence that the world will end in 2012.

There's no reason for the "end of the world" just yet. Unless World War 3 finally occurs or some world economic crisis by December 21.

I would pretty much disagree with that statement.

 

One theory, the most realistic is, in 2012 the technogly will be so advanced it will be like living in a different world. So it's like living in a new era or something

 

It won't be the endof the world, but there will be a lot of deaths and destruction. 2012 will be the beginning of a new and better age, like Utopia. That's what I think is going to happen.

2012 is just another year, why do people keep theorizing about it? because some Aztec calender said it'll happen?

what reason do you have to believe that Aztec calender?

 

2012 is three years away - the technology won't be that much more advanced.

Why do you think that that will happen?

The Mayan calendar didn't even say anything will happen - it just suddenly ended in 2012.

 

same thing shredder, people still hold that it means the destruction of the world because some mayan/aztec calender ended in 2012, what gives the Mayan or aztec peoples any prophetic abillity i dont know.

people have predicted the end of the world hundreds of times and have been proven wrong again and again- why do people still buy this crap?

 

One thing I saw on the discovery chanel was;
The mayans were getting killed off, and they were still making the calander while in war.
And the final person who was making the calander was killed, and s/he didn't get to finish off the calander.

It's supposedly the end of the world.

The world was suppose to end in 1987, then 2003, now 2012, next 2200? then 3000? I'm getting tired of seeing these useless threads in SFA, this thread is for intelligent discussion's, not obvious dumb answer's.

 

The Mayan calendar ends sometime in December, 2012, but that's not to say that the world is going to end on this day, because the Mayans could not possibly have had sufficient proof to theorize this.

World war 3, destruction, or economic crises are all valid reasons for why the world could end, or at least suffer, but the Mayans did not have knowledge of world wars, technologies or complex economic systems, so those reasons cannot be valid if you are talking about the Mayans.

It ended in 2012... It just did. Just because some calendar ended in 2012 doesn't mean that the world will end in 2012.

 

In the Mayan calendar, It works in cycles, were every 56 years there was a chance of the sun "god" taking away their light and thus destroying all of civilization, and I think they would have to please their sun god by offering sacrifices, and they would find out if the sacrifice appeased the god when the time came. The year 2012 happens to be the end of a cycle I think, but then again according to this logic, the world had a chance to end in 1956, personally I don't believe in it.


EDIT: Also 2012 is the year when earth's magnetic field will change somewhat, I don't understand it fully but the gist of it is that like there are 12 zodiac signs, earth's magnetic tilt faces one of them or something like that. Right now, we are in the age of the Pisces, and before that was the age of Ares, this could all tie into religion somehow but I don't feel like elaborating. Basically we would just switch ages and go to a new era. FUN FACT: 2012 is going to be a year when the solar storms will be strongest, this happens every so often. Solar storms pose no chance of destroying us directly(thanks to earth's magnetic shield) but they can sever and destroy and electrical utility with an electrical chip. In the late 1800's they had a powerful solar storm and it fried the telegraph cables from one place to the other, if this happened today the world would suffer more than just the lost of communicating with one another. (Correct me if I'm mistaken.)

One thing I like saying to people who ask me about 2012, I say, "What did the Mayans have that our present-day scientists do not?"

The callender didn't predict destruction, it stopped. They probably got bored of it, or thought "fuckkk we're going to get owned by then anyway, why are we wasting our time with the damn calender when we could be building our empire?"

There is no proof.

 

I'm more of one that hopes the world ends in 2012. Considering I find it interesting and also that it proves God wrong. It's one of those things that saying you want to see happen is just wrong.

Also I think it will happen in a physical form, as in like a meteor hits us. Or a world crisis, such as a deadly virus/Plague/ect.
