The thing is Einstein proved you could never fly faster then a ray of light. Even if you exceed the speed. Yet the number is not different then any other number. I am sure like most things once thought impossible that it well eventually happen.

    In theory, yes.
    In practice, no.

Unless in the future we discover something that goes faster than light, there is no way to go faster.

In theory, we can use light itself to push an object. For example a foil kite thingy suspended in a zero gravity and in vacuum. Due to the fact that there is no resistance, light should push it.

People never thought the sound barrier would be broken.
    You never know.

If the human race lasts another 1000 years, maybe.

Sence all of our bells and whistles are slower or about the same speed of light we can only comprehend everything slower than light, We can break the speed of light in the micro micro world, but we can't go that speed, the mass would just make a black whole out of us.

About using light in a vacuum to move an object, you need to take into account gravity.

Can the Speed of light be broken?

    Interesting Topic.

A Few months back i asked my Physic's teacher the same question, and he told me about how theres a Particle that goes faster than the speed of light..an "Antiproton"

im unsure about the topic, but here is a googled' page.

I would say yes it's possible to brake speed of light when hell freezes over. Even if somehow someway the barrier is broken there will be no way, ever, that humans can travel at that speed. Even is space were gravity doesn't exist.

All in all, if it does happen, it WILL NOT happen in my lifetime.

What do you mean black holes can? There gravitational pull is so strong that not even light can escape, but I have never heard of black holes traveling.

Yeah, *you* can break it, but OTHER people can't SEE you break it. To them, you just poof out of existence. To you, even though you're going 186k+ mps, you won't feel it. To everybody else, you become so thin you cease to exist.

Kinda like the observer effect for getting tossed in a black hole. *YOU'D* feel fine, but everybody else would see you getting ripped to shreds.

Quantum mechanics does some screwy stuff.

Edit: In response to the guy above me, the black hole itself doesn't move, but the objects AROUND the black hole move. Because of its strong gravitational pull, the rotation of objects moving around (and eventually getting sucked in) it goes so fast that it breaks the speed of light (thus the affect on the space-time fabric).

My mistake. I meant to say that black holes can rotate at nearly the speed of light. If you have ever read up on Einstein's publications you would start to believe that nothing can travel at the speed of light. Think of it as trying to manually cool something down to absolute zero (0 degrees Kelvin), it can't be done.

According to Einstein, by traveling at the speed of light, time would stop.

By breaking the speed of light, you will be traveling back in time, therefore you will probably die in a matter of seconds.
