....The Bible doesn't say money itself is evil.
It's the greed behind people wanting more of it which is dangerous.

No darkgroove. You're trying to twist words to make your old arguement seem plausable.

How "beneficial" something is is not based on a quantity but on its use. Now, if you were to ask which they would prefer right now, then your arguement is plausible. However, that is not the case. The question is which they would find as more beneficial to them, not which they could use right now. So, I'll probably have to define beneficial by stating that i am using in the context of what people will find more useful in their lives as a whole.

And damn, you should really do debating this year!!!

    Lies.

Indeed, but if you already own one of the choices, its plausible that anyone would take the other choice.

    Who's they?

    #Define:beneficial
Helpful or good to something or someone
    -en.wiktionary.org/wiki/beneficial

If they aren't using it, or it has no use, how is it beneficial?

I don't like those impromptu topics they give us, besides my arguments fail.

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&defl=en&q=define:intelligence&sa=X&oi=glossary_definition&ct=title
Please read, Intelligence is the point of being more informed, that means that you're view is flawed and thus invalid. I will say there are a few intellectuals that would be smarter than me from back then. But as a majority most definitely not, they're average is that of a belligerent 8 year old.

If your logic is correct then they start off with 1 book they make it sell it for double its price, then they make 2, and so on. If that was the case then the bible has been around for what 2000 years? why aren't all our trees gone?

Having more bibles than one does not get you brownie points with god just so you know.

An there are still people that believe in every god there has been. The fact that there names still come up makes them real enough to say they are existent. Even the god you believe to be real is existent by the fact that everyone believes he\she exists if this were to be not true we wouldn't know who\what it is and wouldn't be having this debate. But as for being a real manifestation that is udder nonsense.

Why wouldn't the most beneficial to you not be your answer?

almost everyone has greed toward money in society, rather it be now or 2000 years ago, we have made ourselves believe that money is actually worth something although it's just a coin or piece of paper. we trade vast amounts of objects worth far more than the paper to your life such as food\water\shelter all for a little piece of paper. This is why everyone is corrupted by this rule breaker it's just people such as shredderbeam or myself don't believe in such rules.[sorry for bringing your name into this shredder lol just couldn't think of anyone else on this thread that isn't religious]

    1 bible for my confirmation.
2 educational bibles for school, one was used up to year 9 and the other from 10 up to year 12 (this year)
Get your head out of your ass.

No, those dieties you listed are brought up because they are from ancient history. People once believed in them.

You can get more Zimbabwe dollars by recycling it in america, then taking the cash made from recycling back and converting it back into the original currency :(

But taking the Bible would not benefit me any more because I already have a Bible. That's what Darkgroove's argument is.

    Something you might find interesting:

I agree that all Christians are hypocrites. I'm a hypocrite.
If any Christian claims to not be a hypocrite, then they've missed the point of Christianity altogether.

I just think that the original reasoning behind this thread is flawed.

You'll probably need to dive deeper than that.

I still think this is the right way to go, hypocritical or not:

Is that so? Well then, how about we define a religion? A religion is basically a set of moral principles which its followers base their lives around. It also involves powerful, undiputable figure-head head which has the power to totally control a person's life, a figure-head which a believer would quickly bow down to and do anything he or she could for it.

In capitalist societies, the mojority of the people have based their lives around the principles of capitalism. That is, to make whatever money they can, to put yourself before others and to take on the role of a class. For the latter-most principle, it can be noted that only people of a medium or high class, those being the people who benefit from capitalism, would truly accept and enjoy their class, whereas the lower class despise classes. However, if the lower class where to take one step upwards, they would no longer hate classes and, rather, enjoy the current system which they are part of.

Also, due to the recent economic boom, which has been put to shame by a global recession, the majority of people in developed countries sat on a comfortable middle or high class, meaning that they enjoyed classes and, therefore, capitalism. In fact, they do so to the point where they ended up destroying the entire world's economy be being greedy and profitting from the inflation of house prices.

In capitalist societies, people basically bowed down to money. Take my example of more people finding $50 more beneficial than a Bible. Money amde up our lives, money was the sole purpose of our lives and, ultimately, our love for money is destroying us as we speak. People would have given anything for money and, I am certain, that one of many people's greatest fears would be to be poor.

Now, let us compare this to a religion. Just like with Christianity, people follow a set of principles in a capitalist society. Our lives are based around the principles of capitalism, which is basically to profit. Also, people have come to respect and fear money, just like someone would respect and fear a God. Money controls our lives and so it is our God.

So, if someone's life is based around money, why can't money be their God and Capitalism be their religion? After all, a religion only depends on people devoting their lives to it. Don't people devote their lives to money. If Big Brother can be a God in "1984", by George Orwell, with Ingsoc as the religion that follows him, why can't Money be a God?

Alright, I'll have to explain this again. The question is not which they would take. Darkgroove's arguement is based on which would be more beneficial to take. What I'm trying to ask is which is more beneficial just to have, regardless of quantity.

The question is based around principles and, most importantly, what a Christian's principles are. If his principles are based around the Christian religion then, regardless of how many he already has, the Bible would always be of greater value to him. Remember, he will not actually take the Bible or the money after you ahve asked him. If, however, he is a "capitalist" then the $50 would be of more value to him, even though he isn't going to take it.

Basically, you have to eleminate the possibility of taking the Bible for my arguement to make sense. Yeah, I know, it's worded really bad.

Religions generally involve elements of the supernatural. Capitalism is another word for "free-market economics" - that is to say, it just assumes freedom.

Fail. Capitalism did not lead to the current recession/collapse, state interventionism did. What we have now is not free-market economics.

I would guess that people would take the $50 because of its utility.

It's not money that we love, it's what money can buy.

By this logic, couldn't any sort of philosophy or idealism be a religion?

God is usually defined as a supernatural entity that it is appropriate for us to worship. Neither Big Brother nor money fit that definition.

Not that free-market economics would be any better - I'd prefer a Great Recession over another Great Depression

An what was wrong with the first bible you had? It's not like food it don't spoil. and books are convenient there meant to be able to be taken with you.
Also my head isn't in my ass sir.

Can you 100% confirm that there isn't a person in the world that does believe in them? No it's the same for your god there is no way to survey every inch of the universe therefor there can't be conclusive evidence one way or another the same for the belief in the deities still.

The reason why you can do that is because the way we as a world have set our economic values on a supply and demand basis. Who is to say gold is worth anything other than it's rare. It's not really used for anything. the same for diamonds they're there to look pretty nothing more.

What exactly is my reasoning other than it just dawned on me and I felt like posting it?

I don't see why people are getting so damn defensive. Every person has or will be a hypocrite at one point or another. Hell if you looked on my old posts you will find numerous accounts of this I'm sure. What I don't understand is why the hell religious people believe they're not.

The first bible I had was for my confirmation, besides the one my mum had lying around. It was the Saints edition or something. It doesn't have the notes on the passages that the educational bibles have. I already explained why I needed two educational bibles, the analysis is a lot more in depth in the 10-12 bible.

I believe in God, there you go. There's 2.1 billion people that believe in a similar God - Christians.

Just like holiday rares in RS... o noes... fagscape...

Because your claiming that because I believe in the same God as someone corrupt or whatever, that makes me corrupt or a hypocrite or whatever. We've used so many words in this conversation, that I don't know what to use anymore.

I'm a hypocrite for other reasons (and Volcomchamp can attest to that :p), but not because I believe in the same God as someone else.

Maybe you should do a bit of research on the massive inflation on commodities because of the war, the abandonment of the gold standard, increased tariffs, etc.

To say free market economics caused the Great Depression is a joke. Sate interventionism was the root of all the unstable artificial credit that was being dealt.

Right, because double digit inflation and pro longed recessions in the Keynesian state of mind is much more bearable than a non interventionist approach in a free market recession that would only last a few months.
