Is Teleportation Possible?

Well i heard that some scientists were teleporting some microshopic molecules, well is it true? And is it possible??
Mabe we will find out how to teleport a human in the future? :O

i belive they teleported a grain of sand 3meters. or 9feet

but yes they can teleport, i think they also tried on somthing larger (not large enough for a human eye to see good enough tho) and the molecules and shit could not be rearanged

 

I'm not sure about the circumstances of it, but wouldn't quantum teleportation generate extreme amounts of heat? If this is so, I doubt it will be able to be used on anything living without successfully killing the subject.

 

Perhaps through wormholes , or string theory. I saw this on Discovery the other night. Its pretty interesting.

Those 'blokes' teleported Beams of light, not anything like a person.

 

This is just the year 2008 give it a few good years.

 

The idea behind teleportation is that it destroys an object at Terminal A, records all data about it, transmits that data to Terminal B, where an identical copy is created. The way I see it, that would kill "me", and make a new person who thought that he was me.

That is the way I understood it also. Another thing to add that I remember seeing about was the scientist not being sure how everything was 'pieced' back together (lack of a better word). So in return they couldn't conclude anything with a 'form' would be in the same afterwards (like a rat being a rat still, tail at the back, nose on the head, etc...)

If it is an identical copy, for all practical purposes it is you. Does it really matter exactly which atoms make you up? Just so long as it is the same type in the right place.

 

According to you the soul doesn't exist anyway, so why should it matter if a human is copied and then destroyed?

 

It's essentially the same thing as a clone of you, or your twin. Your consciousness presumably would not be transferred.

It matters because I would be killed.

But out of all honesty, it's possible. Anything is. Just not in this time period. We'll find out how soon enough.

 

Well, even if this were possible by rearranging from one area to another, while it would be cool, it would bring up the problem of when your molecules get rearranged you don't necessarily come out being the same person you came in to the teleporter. You're "consciousness" would be lost I think, and the new you would think he was the real you and the teleporter worked while others would have simply no idea that you came out differently. You wouldn't cease to exist but your self would(can't put it in any other words). Well that's what I think anyways.

EDIT: Shredderbeam said what I was trying to say, I didn't read the thread at all only the first post, I feel like I copied someone's ideas.

 

Copying materials are re-creating them isn't really teleportation, more like a duplication. Which would be a perfectly fine invention as well, I just don't see a practical way of teleporting anything short of simply destroying whatever was attempted.

What if, A machine, could copy all of your atoms, and send them to a receiver, that would re-distribute them as they were before.

 

hmm.. good point isis.. although i would not want to be th 1st to test it what if there was an error and couldnt send ALL of your atoms? and could only send some.. then you would be screwed my friend.

 

If teleporters became public, Obviously they would be tested first. With animals to begin with most likely, then probably some very highly payed individuals.

 

I have here lots of good thoughts, nice ideas Well hopefully in the future this will be possible :O Well we all will be dead by the time But i still hope someday scientists will find out how to do that
