What do you define as "smart"

Being smart all depends on what field that person is in. If we were to talk about being smart out in a forest, the one who could find food and shelter the most efficiently would be the smart one. In school or university, the smart person would be the one who has the highest mark. On the playing field, the smartest person would be the one who excells at every sport.

Not quite, receiving high grades could be directly correlated to those who work hard, for example; studying. If you receive impressive test grades it could be from excessive studying, and/or great memorization techniques. A smart person in a classroom would be described as intellectual, intelligent, inquisitive, studious, and academically compelled.

But most of those last descriptions can most likely be invalid.

He said that they can be described as.

However, breaking such things down, most of those descriptions do entail "accepted intelligence". I don't see your point.

How could you possibly say that 'smart' isn't hard to achieve, speaking for everyone? Everyone has their own level of intelligence scale, and therefore label people as 'smart' or 'not smart' based on that level of intelligence scale. Your smart may not be my smart, and my smart may be extremely hard to achieve.

I don't see where you were going with that.

You're adding your on characteristics to the occasion, changing the entire meaning of the question AND the answer.

I'll go along, though. What if the environment was that of the "acceptably stupid"? Does adapting then make that child smart?

You're saying that if you know how to fit-in, you're smart.

So, you're smart if you know how to be like everyone else. This is what you're implying.

If everyone is thinking alike, someone is just barely thinking.

    I don't see your point.

Regardless of what I said, Intelligence is still far more difficult to achieve than smart, no matter how you look at it.

If you have innate knowledge but do nothing with it, you aren't smart. Anyone here heard of Chris Langan? Look him up. I suggest reading Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell, you'd learn a lot about this subject.

Sure your smart, your just lazy. Being lazy has nothing to do with brainpower. People call the "dumb" for doing it in the first place, but it's only because their not doing what they'd do in their position.

    It's completely Invalid.

Well intelligence is essentially something that one is born with. Knowing lots of things, having common sense, and things in that field is being knowledgable.

Doing "dumb" things doesn't make you dumb. People could do random things out of boredom or just doesn't care of the outcome.

You said, "people call the 'dumb' for doing it in the first place, but it's only because their not doing what they'd do in their position."

I'm not sure what you mean by 'it', but if your IQ is 200 and you work as a bouncer, you might as well not be smart. Nobody's going to care what you have to say, because why should they? If you're a genius nobody, you're still a nobody. Unless you profess your intelligence, it's pretty useless.

What do you define as "smart"

People may not just want to listen in the first place, or some people may not want the recognition and just be genius to themselves, only having to prove themselves wrong or right.

People can do as they wish with their smarts. Just because it's not what you'd do if you were that smart doesn't make what they do "useless".

Ever heard of Chris Langan? Smartest man in America. IQ estimated 195. What is he? He's a bouncer. Does it matter what he thinks? Not really, since he does nothing with his intelligence. Nobody cares what he has to say. Personally, I think he's pretty insane. Just because you're smart, doesn't mean you are right, or even useful in society.

Summing up, intelligence does not make or break a person.

Ok? He's smart and you deem his occupation "not worthy" of his attributes, the only thing I could even see eye to eye with you is he COULD be doing something better with his smarts, but he can choose not to. You shouldn't deem a person stupid because they don't want to have the weight of the world on their shoulders.

What do you define as "smart"

Being smart is to understand, and take in very easy.

Im alright in school not smart but then when it comes to street smarts its a whole different level i deffantly have them i've done so much bad stuff and the law hasn't caught me.

And thats how it will stay, to have street smarts you need to know how to read someone, you need to know background history on people you meet, you need to acknowledge how they act. You need to question them and intemidate them and make them understand if they slip their fucked. You need to understand signals and etc.. etc..

    That makes no sense.

Intelligence is as easy as learning what 1+1 equals.

'Smart' is somewhat like a rank. Let's say Sythe for example.

Intelligence would be posting. It's easy. You can simply post, and get one post count. However, you must continue to post to get ranks like member, active member, ect.

The amount of post you have determines your rank. The amount of intelligence you have determines whether or not you're acceptably 'smart'.

You can't half-definition it and still live by the quote. What if I can understand that 1+1=2, and yet, cannot understand that 64*29=?

You're saying that to be considered smart, you have to know how to scare someone, you need to know how to question someone, and you need to know how to .. see with your eyes.

Your point has not been proven.

I wasn't speaking of intelligence as information. But if you look at it the way you want, then just choose a different word than "smart".

If you weren't looking at intelligence as 'information', or the way you word it, then how were you looking at it? When you narrow it all down, 'smart' AND 'intelligence' all depend on the information that you have.
