   ,

    What?

If I don't have a good memory, it doesn't mean I don't "have" a memory. I can remember things, just not everything. Does my in-ability to not remember certain things make me dumb?

Forgetting something does not make you dumb, it make you human. If one was not to forget, what would he have to remember? Being capable of memorising alot of things does not make you smart, but it does make you a good listener. Being a good listener makes you more able to record information you hear and finding out more about it.

People are classified into groups of "smart and dumb". This is wrong, as no I.q test will really tell you how "smart" you are. For someone to be smart is by opinion, therefore you cannot say one is smart or dumb". I could find someone very smart, while my neighbour will think he is the biggest idiot. So no one can really be "smart or dumb".

Common sense, knowledge, speaking foreign languages, being good person, being able to talk people into beliveing in yout point of view...

Being smart is a lot of things you can be smart in some fields and dumb as a wet piece of paper in others, there really is no definiton of smart.

    Why quote my phrase?

I was replying to someone who said that "smart" consist of having good memory and general common sense.

A test can decide how "intelligent", you are. It would be a very long test, and such a test has never been seen, but it's possible.

It all depends on what you know, which, really, whoever did take this test would be classified as "dumb" assuming it was an option, because the test would have to test you on every bit of information.

Yes, because if I can't speak a foreign language, I'm a retard. *Sarcasm*

This is an example of false dichotomy, the lack of something does not necessarily constitute the opposite.
If I have a million dollars, I ' am rich.
If I do not have a million dollars I' am poor.

    It is etc. genius
Being social does not make you smart.
How the hell do morals fit into being smart? Clearly you don't have much knowledge of grammer or spelling either from reading this post.
We got one smart son of a bitch here.
I definitely don't consider someone who posts something like this smart.

How can one be tested on every bit of information? You would have to ask every questions possible in the world, then you would need someone to anwser it. So in theory this is possible, but in reality, no. As I stated, for one to be "smart" or "dumb" is completely by opinion.

I would say that you took the words right out of my mouth, except I've already implied that this is only possible in theory. >.<

Not necessarily because the kid may not want to adapt to the given environment. However, if he/she REALLY wanted to fit in (adapt) then he/she will if he/she is intelligent.

What do you define as "smart"

Firstly, I feel that intelligence can also be a life-style. One that can be adapted to and moved into everyday life on how you evaluate what you do next in the day and when in troubling or even simple situations occur, it's how you find the probability of all the moves that can used. Then looking at it from the opposite stand-point and making sure you clear all angles of perspectives possible. Then making your choice within a minute amount of time.

Also, I'd Rather a different word in the first place.

What do you define as "smart"

Smart can be a number of things, knowing alot about one subject, or knowing a bit about everything. I believe smart is something you must label yourself as. Some people have a "thing" for understanding, but they may laze around and not further themselves. Were as some people try and try and try, i believe they are the smart ones. You must go beyond your limits if you want to achieve the self satisfactory label of smart

What do you define as "smart"

"Smart" isn't hard to achieve, being an intellectual is what's difficult. Mainly because smart is over-used and the meaning has lessened. Use a different word.

Sorry if I mess up, i'm still on the on-screen keyboard.

What do you define as "smart"

Holding grudges has NOTHING to do with being smart what soever, you said common sense is being smart and from then on :

All that falls into the category of having common sense, not being smart.

Being smart means you are mentally alert, knowledgeable, and have a high spirit.

To be smart, we need to be able to control our subconscious level of our mind. Once we can reach our own subconscious mind within us, we can control our own life easier. We can control our self and influence our subconscious level through our knowledge in three levels:
    1. beliefs
    2. perception
    3. attitude

Just because someone holds a grudge, doesn't mean they are unintelligent. There is no parallelism between your attitudes to others and your level of intelligence. Holding a grudge is a personality issue, not an intelligence issue.
