Halo 3 Shooter Daniel Petric Convicted of Murder

Daniel Petric, a 17-year-old who was on trial for killing his mom and shooting his dad after being banned from playing Halo 3, has been convicted of aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder and other charges. Since writing the original article documenting how Petric broke into his father's safe to retrieve his copy of Halo 3 while equipping himself with his father's 9mm handgun, Petric's attempted last words to his parents have revisited me now and again—"Would you guys close your eyes? I have a surprise for you."—my mind accompanying the chilling lines with a vivid if not necessarily accurate rendition of the evening.

Killing his parents is one thing, but killing them for a video game is just plain wrong.

Honestly the sad part is the video game industry is going to get blamed for this, and in reality it's just a stupid kid not being able to control himself. Ah well hope he gets raped in jail and then popped himself. Serves him right.

He is not getting death, possibly a life sentence though. Currently they are arguing, just like any other court case dealing with murder, that he is emotionally unfit to be convicted for a life sentence. He lives not to far away from me either...

I learned a lesson from this, if I become a father of a child one day I will either not get a gun or I will hide it well because anything can happen. This kid is not mentally ill if he said "Would you guys close your eyes? I have a surprise for you." Wouldn't that tell you it is completely intentional and not of his insanity? He is addicted to a video game but the fact that his last words to his mom were those words; that tells you he is not insane, he is a cold blooded murderer he only cares about Halo 3 and blocks everyone and everything else out of his life.

I hope he does not get a death sentence, but instead a life sentence because that way that sad excuse for a human suffers.
