Alright im having a bit of computer problems on my HP pavilion a1600n. I am not on it right now because it doesnt hook up to the internet. Heres the story what happened..

Alright i wanted to do a system restore on my Hp so i could start fresh and it all went wrong.. About halfway during the process it started saying error missing file and i kept clicking okay because i thought maybe it wouldnt effect me. And it turned out clicking ok ment to move on with the system restore without keeping those files. I clicked ok literally a thousand times. My computer was fucked up and wouldnt run. So my grandmother told me we had system recovery disks, i put them in and ran them and everything and turned out they were emachine recovery disks. So now my computer was changed from HP to an emachine.. The emachine didnt funtion properly when i was on it. During the set up you know how is asks can you hear the music through the speakers? I couldnt here shit. I kept plugging it in and out, making sure it was in the right spot and everything. Finish with the whole set up and everything looks fine. I plug in my modem and install my internet program with there disk and it doesnt let it work. So now i have NO way of getting internet on it. A month later we find are HP recovery disks. I try to use them and it wont accept them because the computer is now an emachine. So i change my boot settings to cd rom and put the Hp Recovery Disk 1 in and it says "This recovery disks does not support this Pc model only Hp pavilion home pcs. And thats what i have.. a Hp Pavilion a1600n.. The recovery disks are about 5 years old i think so i am wondering if maybe someone can either solve my problem, or give me a download link where i can download the newer Hp recovery disks. IVE TRIED EVERYTHING TO FIX THIS COMPUTER I MEAN EVERYTHING. So if someone smart can help id realllllly appreciate it :] thanks!

EDIT: Computer is Now asking me to Insert a system disk which in other words is a boot disk. I need to find a place where i can download one from or buy it. Help would be appreciated thanks. And Btw it asked for a boot disk when i switching all my booting options to CD-ROM.

Well, the reason that none of your speakers or devices work is because you the Emachine recovery disk does not reinstall the default drivers that were shipped with your system. The best thing would be to wipe the hard drive and install a clean version of Windows XP (or your operating system). Still you will have to download the correct driver for all of your devices. Sound card so sound will play out the speakers and modem driver so you can connect to the internet... etc. etc.

    Good luck.

thanks for the help but what i really am looking for is to restore my computer back to factory settings and hp. Right now i have my computer where it says "Disk Boot Failure, Insert System disk and press enter" so now i am looking for some kind of system disk or boot disk that i can download and put on a cd then try to run on my computer.

    few things to try:

    1. Does your computer have a partition on your HD for back-up? If so possibly find a restore point or system recovery from it.

    2. Format your hard drive, then try to run the hp recovery disk you have.

    3. Go to hp.com and they will send you a factory recovery hp disk for like 10 bucks that comes with all the drivers/operating system/etc. Make sure you format your hard drive before trying to run the disk.

side note: You probally already know this but when you re-install operating system its good to format the entire hard drive to prevent bugs or errors during the re-install.

If you were to reformat your computer, I'd suggest you get someone who has done it before for you.

Let's say you accidentally mess up ONE simple thing, it would be difficult for a person to finish the process - saying if you were to get someone else to finish the reformat process.

Looks like that Emachines disk fucked up your bios. I have an hpa1104x (yes I know it's old but it get's the job done) I have installed, formatted, reinstalled many different version s of XP PRO, HOME, VISTA HOME PREMIUM, VISTA ULTIMATE, back to XP PRO and I have never once had a HP bios problem.

My questions are, when you first turn your computer on, does it say something like

BIOS HP .. etc.??? If you can, restart your computer and write down what it says. You could reset your bios if that's the problem.

    OR

when windows is starting up, hit f1 and from there, hit f5 to restore original settings. Then hit f10 and exit and save. Then when it restarts write down the BIOS screen and post here what it says.

    Last resort:
If you know how to use torrents, I can hook you up.

    1. Partition on a hard drive is like a mini hard drive that is used to back up on. Most new computers come programmed with this. A restore point is a point on the computer that you can boot from (a point in the past that your computer was working but I dont think it will work since you already installed emachine.)

    2. Follow these instructions to format and install your operating system. You probally didnt format your hard drive the first time since you dont know what is it and that could of left old files from your orignal computer which can cause errors. Here is the link: http://www.ehow.com/how_6026_format-hard-drive.html. Here is a sorta helpful link for emachine, but there both bout the same way. Im not familiar with emachine but I hear its about the same process +/- a few keys http://forums.cnet.com/5208-4_102-0.html?threadID=198916

    3. Before you spend money try to format your hard drive and run your hp disks again. If they dont work then you can purchase them from hp.com

Formatting your hard disk is a fairly simple process. You just follow on screen directions. Just boot from your hp disk and it should say something bout formatting your hard drive first. It should take bout 5-10 minutes, so if your already jumping into the install part then you skipped it.

It doesn't matter if you use the e-machine install disk. Just use that, delete all the extra stuff packed with it, and then find and install the correct drivers for your video card, sound card, etc from the manufacturers website.

Your HP laptop should come with a recovery partition. If not, heres the link for the drivers for your laptop.

*edit* Just finished reading it, you got missing sytem files? Best bet would be to torrent a copy of the operating system it came with, verify the md5 checksum, and reinstall. So you have every single file perfect. Nothing wrong with torrenting a copy if you still have a legit key.

Nope. He's just linking you drivers to make your stuff work, aka modem, etc. To install a fresh copy you'd have to reinstall windows.

I guess you didn't try what I said.

In all, since you probably deleted the HP recovery partition (since it won't/can't read your HP recovery disc), you can do what Daily said or you're gonna need to download a pirated copy of windows.

All you have to do is re-activate windows with a random cd code.. you can usually find these in other Microsoft forums.. But you have to re-activate every 30 days; and of course, it will be windows. But EVERYTHING will work. Trust me.. I use this program. =P
