internet problem

right now, I'm on my mom's computer because my computer's internet doesn't work. the problem is, that it saids the internet is connected but when i clicked firefox it saids no connection.

so sythe what do i do?

Well, urm..try taking the modem out for 1 minute then plug it back in and see if that works.

 

we called the internet company and tried that but didn't work

 

Wait, what internet type are you using, Wireless/DSL etc.? I mean for the broken interenet computer

 

Ok, are you using XP or Vista? I am 99% sure I know what the problem is. I have fixxed it on many computers for my friends... I just need to know XP or Vista.

 

Could be a number of things.
Try opening up command prompt and typing
ping www.google.com

If it doenst give you a response then no internet

It just means your connected to the network. Go into your router settings and see maximum connections allowed

Ok, Go to control panel, network connections...

right click on "Local Area COnnection (and some number here)" and click properties... select internet protocol and click on proprieties...

if anything is set, click get automatically. If nothing is set, go to your moms computer type in "ipconfig /all" in command prompt... find the dns servers, write them down and then put those in on your computer...

that normally fixxes these types of problems, and i bet thats what it is since that is almost always the case...

It does depends if you use a direct internet connection on your computer. If you do have direct connection in your computer, try pinging your DNS. If you don't get a reply, it means the problem lies within your internet service and not your hardware.

 

It can not be with his ISP, as his mom's computer has internet.

 

another way you can might fix it is turn off ur router completely, unplug everything and let it all refresh. then plug it all back in. i have the same problem and thats how i fix mine

 

tried that but it does the same thingy.

 

Does it work if you plug the computer in to the network and not use wireless?

 

If you installed service pack three that might be the problem. Try to uninstall it.
