Is the Death Penalty really necessary?

Do you think the Death Penalty is necessary?

I think its necessary because if they killed like 10 people, the only fair thing would be to have him or her killed.....
Also less people would kill other people because of the consequences....

 

Putting it to use will make people think twice before killing, imo.

 

well death penalty serves several purposes-

1. it acts as a way to frighten would-be killers, a punishment of 25 years , which will almost certainly be cut by a third if you behave nicely (that's the ridiculous penalty for murder where i live) doesnt scare anyone, death or imprisonment till death are the only suitable punishments (same goes for rape)

2. it rids the system of the need to supply resources for the convicts (although it could also be solved by making them work while they're imprisoned)

in short- i support the death penalty, although i would much rather if it is only used by lethal injections instead of vile ways like, i dunno, a gilliutine or something similar

 

I only support the death penalty if the person was found to be guilty of murdering another person. Other than that, I do not condone of the death penalty.

 

Not necessary, but it is definitely sufficient as a means of both punishing criminals and frightening would-be's.

And yet our goverment is killing those who have killed.

 

To be honest, I think you should be shot down at the scene of the crime if you committed a cold blood, out of the military murder.

Eh, I mean there there are many ways to go about it.

If you have a serial killer, who brutally murdered 15 people, then yes I believe he should be put to death. Why should he not die after killing so many people for no reason.

Then again, you can have someone who didn't commit such crimes, but still did some terrible things.

I guess it comes down to what the person actually did:
- Serial Killer: The needle
- Shoplifter: Obviously not

 

It depends in the severity of the crime he/she committed. If a person has tortured someone i think that means that the person should be tortured in return. Its only right that the person should get what they did to another person. Although if that person had a mental illness i think it should be considered a painless death. Because they had a mental illness they should not be subjected to what they did. I think they should still be killed because they killed a person. Just because they had something wrong with them doesn't mean that they can go around killing people. Even if they don't realize it. Just my 2 cents.

 

i dont like the death penalty, but the people are going to sit in jail for the rest of their life, thiers no point of spending years in jail. and would you really like a murder like that near your family?

The death penalty origins around hypocrisy. "You killed someone, so you must be punished. We're going to kill you!" That's not justice.

I'll never support the death penalty, but like Finn said, I don't feel like rewriting exactly why.

 

Not really neccessary, Maybe mass deportation to some island in the middle of nowhere would be more sufficient.

 

I don't feel the death penalty is correct because killing will always be wrong no matter who you are.

As stated by icy dude, the main aim of the death penalty is to prevent would be criminals from committing crime. However, when I had to write a report on capital punishment a few years ago, i found that the statistics suggested otherwise. According to the statistics, violent crime rates and recidivism by criminals were higher in countries that imposed the death penalty.

On a personal note, i feel that life in prison is far worse than the death penalty and would consequently be a greater deterrent.
