    Sports Injuries

Have you injured yourself playing sports, and what happened?

    Sport: Football
Injured: Torn ACL, Strained PCL, Frayed Meniscus

Basically it was kick off and as I ran down the field I got hit while I tried to plant with my other leg my knee gave out. My leg was basically facing the other directions until I sat up and popped it back in place, and then I felt the pain. The knee swelled up pretty bad, and I couldn't bend it. I went to the doctor the next day (usually waiting a day for swelling to go down is better since they can see more), and he said I probably just tore my meniscus I would be back to football in a few weeks. I went to the actual knee doctor and he said I messed it up pretty bad. I had to get surgery which put me out for a year. It was a cadaver tendon from the tendon in front of peoples ankles. I decided to go with that since I play football and needed a strong ligament. My options were for them to take some of my hammstring muscles and make a ligament out of that or take some stuff out of my patella tendon from my other knee to make a ligament. I figured I would probably lose speed if I took out some hammstring muscle and if I used the patella tendon I would have two weak knees. Surgery was a pain (really bad after I ran out of the numbing medicine). Then I had Phsysical Therapy which wasn't too bad but frustrating when I couldn't even bend my leg and all I was trying to get my 90 degree bend and -10 degree something. After that I took running pretty easy but I gained a lot of weight and lost a lot of muscle in my legs. I ended up being quite a bit slower than I was and a little more heavier (maybe a lot 25 pounds). I still have pain my knees sometimes and I feel like its just gonna fall apart eventually. Its a 2 year recovery to be back at 100% and I would say I'm about 89% after a year.

    Post your stories :p

I only broke a toe in swimming ;P.

Smashed it against a lane rope.

The toe nail came off in the water during a swim meet >.>. So it sucks for the other team.

    Sport: Skateboarding/football

Well i've broken my wrist while skateboarding before I messed up on a grind one some curbs(5-0 grind if I remember right) and the board slipped out from under me and i fell backwards and crack.

The football injury was when I was in secondary school when we used to play with tennis balls, I was in goal and when I saved it the ball smacked the end of my finger and broke it. Also ive recently torn ligaments in my ankle a few weeks ago while I was in a match.

This was back in elementary school. The couch wanted to try me out on 3rd base, against my wishes. At a practice someone hit a line drive strait at me, it hit me on the forehead and I had a disgusting purple bump on my head for weeks. I'm not saying a small bump... this thing was the size of the baseball itself.

I broke my ankle in 3 places while mountain bike riding. I hit a rock and flew down the hill. It wasn't pleasant.

I was warming up with a friend, I did a 180 (it was supposed to go in front of him without touching), he lifted his leg to block thinking it was a leg kick I kicked his shin with to top of my foot and fractured my pinky and the one following it.

    Damn bro that sucks.

I fucked up my lower back doing deadlifts when I first started weightlifting and didn't know jack shit. I picked up the bar with a curved back and was in horrible pain the next day. I kept fucking it up every so often and it never fully healed. It has been 1.5 years already and I haven't been able to run but I am almost to a full recovery.

Ah all this talk of tendons and ligaments makes me squeamish.

Skiing is like a suicide sport really.
