X shadow not paying for my web development service

Explain the service: X Shadow hired me to develop a website for his CSGO community, we agreed on a $300 price. This amount was agreed to be paid after completion of the service. (The service and amount was confirmed on discord as well in a Sythe pm) I developed this website for him in 2 days and he was very pleased with the results. After a full day of ignoring me on discord, he is making false claims about the code of the project being shit (he told me the back-end I created was shit and that another dev is currently re-creating the whole site I just delivered to him). A note to this back-end statement by him and the project in general: The site he wanted me to develop is so basic that this website doesn't require any back-end implementations, all his pages are just static content, I told him that in the future whenever he needs more advanced logic, a proper back-end system would've been implemented. This is only a $300 project. He is telling me nothing of the source code has been shared with this developer, but I delivered X Shadow the code earlier and guided him on how to setup the project on his local machine so this can't be guaranteed. The reason for sharing the code base with him and making him setup the project on his local machine was to give him the chance to edit the content parts of the website himself. This community website has to be in Danish so I let him fill in all the content.

Proof that the service was not completed: This service was completed with still some minor changes to be made like changing some styling of the homepage and adding a footer. Those are really minor changes to be made, takes like 20 minutes. Service was completed by 95%.

Yes it's correct that I hired him to do a web development project. He started coding and it all looked good. Then he put it on the website for live review and said its like 90% done. He wanted payment before continueing and as i said in the screenshots he posted, that I'd be paying him 09:00 AM in the morning, as it was 02:00AM night.

I woke up early that morning and my friend (Has education in software programming/engineering + web development) He took a look at the website on the domain and wanted a screenshot of some of the code as an example. He took a look and said that I'm getting screwed here. The code is not structured, messy, missing features, HTML5 tags missing and in general its just basic/amateur work. He re-created the site (NOTE: He does it without getting paid, so its not about him wanting to earn money) He did the whole thing the guy did in 3 days in just 1 day. He then showed that the other guys work (Punch) REQUIRES javascript from visiting people otherwise site isn't functional.

I explained all that to the other guy, yet he claimed i scammed and stole his code + gave it to my friend. I have screenshots of the conversation between me and him. No plagiarism, files or source code has been shared or uploaded.

@Pikachu Yes, he has a copy of the code. I invited him to my github repository after I deployed the website on his hosting. Then I told him how to get the source code on his local machine and explained on how to run the project so he could edit the content etc... After I noticed he wasn't going to pay me, I removed his access to the github repository but he has still a copy of the code on his local machine.

@X Shadow statements I have the following to say to that:

I'm not sure what kind of education he has but surely he has no experience when it comes down to working with Javascript frameworks. (Which if you do have an education in this field you surely should have some experience with frameworks like React.js, Angular.js, Vue.js) but anyway it's not about the developer really.

So the website is developed in React.js, Typescript and Ant.design (which is the same as bootstrap but more fit to be used in a Javascript framework).

So as listed from above I used a Javascript framework as main technology, so obv the site will require javascript to work. I don't think you should mention this as a problem really. I informed you clearly that I was going to be using a Javascript based framework and c'mon man it's 2020.. move on with the technologies of the future...

I don't think there is anything wrong with the structure of the code. I'm not here to say the structure of my code is perfect but it is certainly not bad. As I asked you many times before to give me an example of bad structure or why the code is shit in general, you never gave me a good argument so that just proves my point that you and your developer have actually no clue.


Messy? Well you showed me a picture of your conversation with this so called developer with a screenshot of the content file of the project and he told you the code was messy.


Can this file you showed to your developer be considered as code? Not really if you ask me. The file you showed him was a JSON file filled with objects and arrays which consists of strings that represents the content of the website. I created this JSON file with the following reason only: To make it for you as a non-developer easy to edit content on your site. I wanted to avoid that you had to go in to the project files and search for the content.



I have no problem to admitting that the structure of this file can be improved but to say the work is amateur is just bullshit really. I'm well aware there are better options for content management but I'm not going to build a full CMS system for $300 dollars and there is nothing wrong with using a JSON file to store data.


Missing features? Besides the minor changes I still had to make I don't think there is anything missing.


HTML5 tags missing? Well again this just shows how you and the developer have no idea of how a Framework like React.js really works. I'm not here to give you a full tutorial on how to use React.js but telling I haven't used HTML5 tags is just FALSE.

React works with so called 'components' instead of plain HTML everywhere. This makes React so powerful, I can reuse components instead of duplicating plain HTML tags.

These components are represented in the code as Tags indeed, so if I had a component that consists of my full site-navigation I may call this component (NavBar) and use this component as a HTML tag like follows

This is indeed not a valid HTML tag but the Framework knows there is underlying code within this component that consists of VALID HTML tags. I suggest you to checkout the React.js framework to get a full understanding.


Tbh I can clearly understand you have concerns about this but you should've came to me and ask me why there are HTML tags missing instead of 'hiring' this developer. Also I would've been fine for a code review by another web developer but not behind my back and btw It is not hard to make a copy of a website in 1 day if you have my code (html, css, etc...)

Anyway I'm still waiting on a valid argument to why my code is shit. You tried your best to break down my project but I think you really did a terrible job at it.
