Is School a Joke?

The purpose of school is not to teach your facts, it is to teach you to think. Many public schools now only care about making their students pass standardized testing. Consider this:

Within 2 years of graduating high school you will forget about 80% of the factual information that you are taught. That means within two years, unless you are a history major, you will most likely forgot most of the stuff you learned in history during high school.

What schools are trying to teach you is how to think, evaluate, understand, analyze, ect. If you have these skills memorization is pointless. There is no need for memorization for any subject, including language and history.

The problem with school and the education system is that it represses independence, it tries to teach obedience.

 

Yeah its all about memorizing, you wont need the 80% of the shit they tell you,and the teachers dont care about that

 

School may look like a joke because it can be boring and tiring, But that's what gets us our future. For example let's say Bill Gates It took him i believe 27 years to build Microsoft which powers alot of things and look at him now he has like what 37 Billion Dollars i know that's alot. If you want to be like him you have to go to school and actually Have good grades and do wil on exams

 

its a bit of a joke because its teaching you how to jump into the system and join the giant pyrimid scam of the world... it seems that to get somewere you have to do it or have nothing of materialistic value, unless you steal lol

 

Even though you are learning some things, MOST kids, adults aswell; forget 70+% of the criteria subdued withing school/college walls.

 

I dont know why so many people think school is a joke.

I hardly think so, there are many people who wish they could go to school and have an education.

School taught me many things, including the fact ive made good friends.

My 2 cents

 

It's unfair because the effort put into learning for those who aren't so intelligent, are belittled by those who effortlessly glide by in school.

I, not to brag, am lucky enough to beable to grasp most subjects without any problem. I do, however, know of many students who spend MUCH more time memorizing and learning the material, but get less of a grade. I feel it is unfair, because for the effort I put into school, I honestly feel they're the ones deserving an A and me the D. When I grow up, I'll probably put my knowledge and intelligence to waste, but I know however, they'll continue to strive to better themselves. That effort is what schools 'should' be grading upon.

 

Of course school is a memory game, isn't that all learning is just a different form of memorization?

 

i'm not saying a like school, im actually "skipping" right now because i woke up late this morning, but remembering shit IS learning; if you learned a new trade or that 2 + 2 = 4 it's no use to you if you don't remember it, or understand it.

in my opinion they do over-do a lot of things, but you do learn in school if you try even just a little bit. if you're not learning ANYTHING it's your own damn fault.

 

Most of the stuff they teach you at school you will never use again in your life, school is rubish.

 

First off, of course school sucks, no one wants to be forced to do something they do not want to do.

Secondly, school is absolutely necessary. The majority of school is not preparing you for life, it is preparing you for college. College is for learning, not K-12. While K-12 can prepare you for some career fields, it is usually not sufficient for any long-term jobs.

College is aimed at your life more since you obviously get to choose what you are going to learn rather than follow a set course. Of course, you typically have to take 2 years of a set curriculum to set-up further education, but this set course is mode tuned to your interest.

So, in conclusion, school is not a joke. School teaches you HOW to learn, study, and give you career ideas. While some schools can be an exception, this is the case for most. It is just something we have to do. I don't doubt that there are conspiracy theories about "brain-washing" and "conformity," but it the public education system, at this point, we can't ask for much more. (my opinion only of course)

 

I would not say it's a memory game.
Not here in Denmark, at least.
We have good schools.
Sometimes I check, and I actually DO learn something new everyday.
Wheter it's in French, English, Math, I learn something new everyday.
You need to work for it, though.
You can't just say "MAN, I go to school everyday. Why ain't I learning anything?". You'll have to work. It will pay off in the long run.

I hate it just as much as the next guy, but i still think it is necessary. Besides, chances are that you met most of your friends through school.

 

school is most certainly not a joke..
any education you get from school can only be beneficial, and also school has a very big impact on how you socially develope. If nobody went to school the world would be a very different place....

 

if im not mistaken didn't einstein drop out of college? i think he only maintain a "c" average in highschool..he didnt turn out that bad did he?
