help with electron and valence numbers

Can someone tell me how to find the number of electrons in an element? For example, how ddo I find the number of electrons in the element calcium? And what would the valencee number be?

Btw, the atmoic number of calcium is 20, so what would ne the number of electrons and valence number

Number of electrons is easy. An atom must be neutral (otherwise it's an ion), so it has the same number of protons as electrons. Thus calcium has 20 electrons (arrangement 2,8,8,2).

Calcium is an alkaline earth metal and so it's valency would be 2, unless you mean something else. I don't take chemistry.

help with electron and valence numbers

Atomic number is the number of protons in an element. The number of electrons are the same as the number of protons. The valence electrons are the number of electrons on the highest principal energy level.

The number of electrons is 20, and the number of valance electrons is 2. If you understand the periodic table this gets very easy.

wow this is retarded lee easily.. look at your peridoic table look at oxygen i forget the atmoic number i believe its valence is 6 no table infront of me. zyou will see 2-6 6 is the valence the amount of electrons in the outer shell. IF you think this is hard wait tilll balancing equations come although it isnt bad but this is easy..
