Do you think the world would be better off if everyone was taught the same language?

    My Arguments
For: Everyone can communicate with eachother, international affairs become more convinient.
Against: World becomes less cultural, countries become less unique.

    Discuss.

I personally could care less of the cultural parts of the world. Or the "uniqueness".

I would agree with the one prominent language but it is unobtainable. Just like the measuring systems, US territory is the ONLY to not use the metric system.

And i'm not saying that English should be that language, i'm open.

Did Zimbabwe switch? Thought there were two countries not using metric.

Well, I think it would make the world a very boring place, don't you think so? Even though this could be good in some respects, I agree with you when you say the world would lose its culture, and foreign culture is actually one of the things in life that interests me.

So, I say no. Besides, I find learning new languages fun.

If everybody spoke the same language there would be no diversity, no uniqueness, no culture. Everybody would be able to understand each other yes..but at what price?

I don't really see any advantages except convenience, and that would make everything less fun. I suppose it would help when I waited 27 minutes in line at Pizza Pizza because the Chinese cashier couldn't speak English.

If I remember correctly, it has been tried many times before. They weren't a "everyone speaks the same language" thing, but more of a universal language that you learned for your second language. All of them failed.

I believe that English is actually becoming another one of those languages, because English is required as a class in other non-English speaking countries.

Your culture is your own language in that way.
English is what you speak to others with.
That's why we speak English on this forum.
It's the 2nd lagnuage. Everybody* speaks it. Some, maybe not good, but they do.
Most people understand English, so it's not really a problem. You have your on "culture", and a 2nd language that everybody speaks.

    * Please understand this in the right way.

Indeed, the same language in all of the world would help people communicate easily. For country leaders to actually understanding what other ones are trying to say etc. Less wars, less irl-drama.

I think that it is a good idea to only have one language. However, I think that it would be very hard to choose a language that every one agrees with. And it probably just would not work.

I believe it would be easier for communication, but languages are a source of learning as well in todays world. It helps us share our culture from the past as well so this is key. I mean we could still teach the same ones but just wouldn't be the same. So I disagree and Agree

Most racist thing I've heard since I ventured to KKK.com.

Everyone has the right to speak whatever they want. Language is a gateway to a culture.

העולם יהיה נורא מעפן אם לא יהיו הרבה שפות

translation- the world would be a crappy place if there werent alot of languages.

i think that cultural diversity is what makes this world interesting, yea, it causes tension and conflicts between cultures, but without this diversity this world would be a dull place to live, and language teachers would be out of work XD

Most countries outside of the United States are already teaching English. Here at my school, we are required to have two years of foreign language. And, being in the US, a lot of the students decided to take Spanish and not French. Anyway, A lot of schools teach english, along with their native languages. French, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, German, Italian, whatever it may be.

It would not be good if everyone has same language. The language is mark of the nation and when will have 1 language, there will be no unique nations.
