    Evolutionary Theory being taught.

IMPORTANT: This is not a debate of what religion is true, the existance of God, etc. This is a debate on whether or not learning the evolutionary theory should be taught in schools.

Because it is beleived to have happened millions of years ago, I do not see who gives a damn in the first place. But since many people (like me) do not beleive it happened, what right does the school board have to teach it? Afterall, I am not allowed to converse about MY beleifs...

Yes it should. Evolution is observable every day in the form of mutation of bacteria, animals adapting to changing environments etc. It's not a mindless fairy tale, there are mountains of scientific evidence to back it up. It is an essential part of any biology curriculum and should not be dropped.

Nah, it shouldnt be, because theres no proof of it making us, whatsoever, so it shouldnt be taught as a religion, maybe as a scientific thing for nowadays.

It is irrelevant whether you believe in it - the theory is scientific in nature, therefore it shall be taught in a science class.

There is quite a lot of evidence supporting the theory of evolution.

    The four main areas:

    - Fossil records
    - Genetic similarities between species
    - Anatomical similarities between species
    - Geographical distribution of species

That's a very brief summary of the evidence, mind you. It's not quite that simple.

So what do you propose they teach as the answer to why life started? Something with no proof whatsoever, or something with quite a lot of research supporting it?

Basically what Shredder said - we had to read this book called The Inner Fish this summer for Biology; it actually read quite nicely, and greatly supported the theory of evolution (it talks about all four of these things, focusing largely on anatomical similarities, but also some genetics).

There is proof that evolution exist. Maybe, a god created us, maybe not, all in all, it should be taught, because it exists.

Lol, these 'evidences' are not so much evidences as they are scientifical bias from the people who researched it.

Evolution is not fact, but a theory supported by very weak evidence which could be easily used better in a creation model.

But, how do you know they turned into humans, wouldnt there be none of that species left, then?

I have no problem with evolution and creationism being taught in schools, such as long as no propaganda is given; ie, nobody tells you or gives you an idea on what to believe. You are given both sides then you make your decision.

Please demonstrate how the evidence is flawed without just declaring it by fiat to be irrelevant.

    Oh, really? Which evidence, specifically?

This was mentioned on a list of arguments that should not be used against evolutionists, directly from the leading Creationist website:

To answer your question in short, reproductive isolation.

It should be kept out of school and found out on your own time. You don't know if you can have a staff that is more on one side than the other trying to manipulate the children by telling one is better than the other.

Evolution has a lot to do with religion. If evolution made all of the organisms, than there is no need for a god atall. Which will change their belief to evolution.

Double negatives are against your thought. We were all born from our mothers, we have proof of that. Your post just makes no sense.

Well number 1, i think that the evolutionary theory along with religion should be taught as a "believe what you want" kind of thing. And what grade are they teaching this in school any how?

well, firstly, it's important to emphasize that the evolutionary theory is NOT a belief system, but it's a well proven scientific theory, it has so much proof, that it takes utter ignorance to claim it's false.

now, as for WHY it should be taught- the concept of evolution affects modern biology, when it comes to antibiotics , genetic engineering, etc, so there is a good reason why it's taught, other than to obviously understand the world around us and it's history.

as for creationists who say "fine, you teach your ideas, we want to teach ours too!"

i find that claim ridiculous, it would be identical to a person offering to teach magic (not card tricks and sleight of hand, i mean magic) along with science, and that kids should "learn both ideas"

what creationists try to do is to bypass the process of verifying your theory through peer review and experimenting (which is what's necessary to pass something as school material in science classes) and just get into spreading their false ideas on guillible youth

i think deep inside creationists know they are wrong, so that's why they say that "both ideas should be taught"

by the way- Evolution does NOT equal atheism, i personally believe in a "god" of some sorts, but not in any relligious crap. there is no contradiction between the idea of evolution and the idea of a creator.

So, isnt the bible bias depending on what form of religion you follow? Do we have any concrete evidence about Adam and Eve? Nope.

As for Theory being taught, its a part of the Biology process and should be taught. You dont have to dwell on the Ape -> Human aspect but you can touch briefly on it while fully discussing other evolutions.

My last chain of Science we were talking about Evolution, There is evidence that we could have evovled from any animal. Maybe when man was just created they only had 1 hand and 2 toes, but Mutations over the years taught them that 2 hands and 2 feet with 10 toes made them survive better. That's why we have Long necked Giraffes, Speedy little rabbits, the giraffes height and the rabbits speed helped them survive better.

Really? Did you know evolution is in direct violation with the Second law of Thermodynamics.

Quit spewing these statements like there is absolute proof evolution is true. It's not even observable or testable.

The 2nd Law of Thermodynamics states that a closed system not in equilibrium must approach entropy. So, if the entire Earth were a closed system, this might work. Oh, if only we evolutionists had a large source of energy relatively near to the Earth. Preferably something hot and bright. That would solve all of our problems.

Microevolution can be directly observed, macroevolution can be indirectly observed.
