R2pleasent's MSN - For the prying eyes

This is a half dispute. The kind of dispute that you don't expect to get unbanned from, the kind of dispute solely designated to paint two sides of the story. I'm not well known here by the staff, so I doubt it will make a fuss. But hearing your honest opinion of this case would be interesting. As for the story, it won't make sense at any one point necessarily, but you should be capable of piecing the pieces of the puzzle together. This story is probably the most improbable story you have ever heard (accessing R2's MSN is improbable to begin with) - but it isn't written in self-preservation, thus I have little motive to lie.

If you want a simple viewpoint here it goes: I was an accomplice in a crime no doubt. I ultimately saved R2pleasent hundreds of mils (if not bils) in lost cash from scammed customers. I restored his access to his contact list, which was probably worth much more. In doing so, I sacrificed much personal gain and betrayed someone I knew much better. Don’t read anymore unless you want an eyesore.

It begins roughly a week ago. I met an account that I purchased about 6 months ago in game, on a PVP world. I was ignored by this particular individual, but I saw that he was carrying a fair amount of good gear. I still possessed the details to recover the account, and I did so. When I logged in, there was still around 20m on the account. I prepared to transfer it, I assumed it was still the bastard of the original owner who recovered it to begin with. Needless to say, I didn't. He logged in from a different RS account that was already added, and after a short conversation, he told me to add [email protected]. His name = Luc.

A few agreements were reached to share the RS account. I saw him as a pretty slimy individual - I knew that he wasn't the original owner, but he claimed to have purchased it for 280$. After lengthy convos, we developed a "half-trust" with each other. He asked me if I would partake in his phishing business and I told him I wasn't qualified because I'm terrible with any sort of programming language. But before I knew it, some mils were trickling in. He didn't have a 95-100 account(and I did), I was naturally greedy and needy. Literally the second day after we met, some trust built up. The time frame for what occurs next is both extremely small and extremely improbable. R2 didn't believe me, I'm not sure if he even believes me now - doesn't matter. On the third or fourth day after "meeting" luc, we were talking pretty frequently. He logged off after a few hours, and I get a message from [email protected]. I had added Darklord a long time ago to purchase one of his accounts, but the deal didn't work out. I got asked some pretty random questions, but I didn't mind answering.

I went to eat a short dinner, I come back and from the same MSN account, I get this:

Keep in mind, before this point, I had NO idea that luc = Darklord. As I looked through the chat history to post this dispute, it now actually makes sense. The previous “survey” was an attempt to hack my MSN account as he did to R2. I never knew at the time, and even then, I didn’t even believe that he was telling the truth. Luc is a dumbass and not such a smart liar. I told him the implications of this – if he hacked, money was off the limits (Police could get involved), but how bils of rsgp were on the line. If you want honesty, I wanted the money, I am greedy like most of those on Sythe, but unlike most on Sythe, I didn’t have the balls to make the scam myself. Shortly after the conversation, he logged onto R2’s email. He changed the recovery question, but neglected to change the recovery email. His first step was searching R2’s email for various things, I was pretty curious as to what was inside. There wasn’t anything of interest. He gets on and scams 10m off the bat. It took literally no time at all. There were other attempts to scam that day, largely unsuccessful because Luc is neither persuasive nor the best at scamming (besides having the balls to do it). Luc has a bedtime, I don’t. He was worried that R2 would be recovered by morning, so I was given the password on the basis of three premises. 1. I didn’t change it. 2. I would setup a list of possible targets. 3. If I were to scam, all the GP would go to his account first, and would be brokered to me on a secondary basis. Well, that night, I was only on briefly. It’s quite an odd experience, you login, there’s 50 add requests, and the contact list is 500+. A few people offered to sell/buy gold, I told them I would the next morning. I recorded those names, sleep overtook me.

I wake up, the password has been changed. I figured oh well, R2 has gotten his account back. Luc did not change it, but recovered the account once again through the recovery questions (which I now believe was coerced from R2 to begin with). This time, he did a clean job and changed the email. Well, a few hours later, he said that he had “phished” an account with a Blue Partyhat. He also just happened to know the pin to the account. I’m not an idiot; I obviously suspected that he had used R2’s account to change the password and get the pin. Honestly though, I didn’t care. I just wanted a cut, no matter how I could get it. Dorito scammed me once upon a time, hundreds of mils have been lost from lures in bounty hunter and to Sythe. No justification of course, greed is not a just motive. Well, he refused to let me on the account. He didn’t trust me with the value of it. The issue was, he couldn’t sell it. He spent a long ass time trying to sell it, and then he said he’d just do a partyroom transfer. He though that it’d only take 10 seconds to drop because alch value was low, and I told him he was an idiot. So eventually, I coerced his tiny brain into letting me on the account. I sold it for a ridiculous deal, 8 dplates + 27m cash. I helped Luc transfer it to his account, half of it was lost in bh. I did get a fair cut.

The next day, I was chilling on R2’s MSN under Luc’s instruction to find “target accounts”. Even after the hacking had been posted on Sythe for 24 hours, there were offers of Christmas Crackers, 3rd Age melee, 200m+ at once – you wouldn’t believe the riches that were easily attained. I convinced 3 of these 200m+ traders to sell some gp. It wasn’t hard because I upfront told them that my MSN was recently hacked and that I would gladly PM them. If they requested the PM actually be done, I just ignored them. However, when it came down to the final few minutes of each, I backed out. I just couldn’t do it. I told them to wait till later because I was “backed up”. I assumed that Luc would do it himself and I’d be happy with whatever I got, and be guilty free. Ultimately, my role was not to be any worse than the original hacker.

Well, then Will, [email protected] came on. He offered to purchase back the account for a lot of money to begin with. I explained to him why I was in no position to sell the account. He didn’t believe a word I said, and looking back at my own story, I understand why it seems so improbable. I felt guilty as fuck, I told him I would try to return his account back. He said if I really wanted to, than I would’ve done it already. Well, I didn’t want money or anything, because I just couldn’t steal. The offer is ridiculous anyways – who the fuck would pay someone that is on his/her msn account. If it was Luc, who hates R2, he would’ve just taken the money and kept the account. I couldn’t do that, and I couldn’t even take the money. I was in a big dilemma. Give up all my hopes of making a LOT of rsgp, or return the account back to R2 guilt free. I took some time to think. For little reason, I started receiving death threats upon my household from Will. He said he would track me down by posting my IP and then paying tickets for “him and his friends” to pay a visit to my house. Right then, I was just about to block R2. He had called me a liar, when I had no reason to lie, and was making serious threats. Threats that could have turned the tables and gotten him into much greater legal repercussions that I could have received. I was not actually afraid of him; US law permits me to shoot him on site if he lands on my property and presents a serious threat to my safety. I calmed down, thought the situation over. I thought of how hard he worked for his business, and how I wasn’t guilt-free I had self-justifed myself to be. I thought about how if I were in his shoes, I’d be doing the same thing. Ultimately,my empathy ruled out my greed. I agreed to give R2 back his account with the ONE condition that he had a conversation with me afterwards. It’s not too much to ask.

I told R2 most of what I’ve written above. The chat is not what I would call amiable, but it ended like this:

    David said:
    Peace then.
$ R2Pleasent/ WiLL $ - Sythe's Leading GP Seller - New Sales MSN! I will happily PM anyone for verication said:
    take it easy

I felt resolved. If I hadn’t been there, R2 would’ve been in a FAR worse position. His account would’ve never been returned, and whether he will admit it or not – there are billions of scammable gp’s on his msn account. Well, maybe I deserved the ban. I don’t deserve this “I'd rape you personally in the ass if I just had the chance to meet you.” as my ban message. Maybe I’m an ass, but not even close to as bad as 90% of the rest of the community here. I think most of you will agree, whether it be public or not. My crime is greed, shared by most of you out there, not actually scamming.
Let me ask you the question: If you had to choose between mils/bils of RSGP, or returning an account to resolve your moral problems, which would it be? Oh, sure, most of you staff would say the right thing. Half of the staff would truly mean it. Outside the staff though, anyone who answers the latter is just lying to themselves.

I suppose we should thank litter bugs for spawning environmental groups too? That is one of the best ban messages ever.
