How much reality is in working for Jagex?

Quite frankly since the very first day I played runescape, I wanted to be a storyline writer for them.
Write storyline for quests, minigames, etc.
And I'm learning Java (BTW: I need help with that xD), and HTML.

I read on the official website in a description of them they get paid about 30kUSD a year, which isn't bad for that type of job, and it has MANY benefits.(That's converted from UK pounds.)


What do you think is the reality of this?
I live in America, but a ride to the UK is only a plane away, and with UKs housing market screwed up, it wont be hard finding at least an apartment until I can get a better house.

I knwo it's pretty gay sounding career goal, but I would love this.

 

Well, I'd see what they employ people for. I'm sure if you're a people person, they could start you out at Customer Support.

And, no it doesn't sound gay. If this is what you want, you should go for it.

I am really good with people, as long as I have reason to.
And I know for a fact if it was my job I'd be 100% professional.

 

Well, if that's what you want to do don't think about those who will prob try to put you down in this thread. I wouldn't mind a job over there either but 30k USD a year is pretty low imo.

 

It's in your best interest not to tell them you're a member of Sythe. But best of luck getting your dream job. I would hate it personally but it's your life you're living.

if you worked in america you could be paid hella more then 30k a year. also 30k a year isn't much considering that job takes some skills to do. apply at nike or something .

Sounds like a bad idea to me, you want to move to England where living in a city is very expensive and work like a bitch for 30k a year? and don't say benefits, you could easily make double that in America with a college degree and buy a fucking Gym membership. Also you have to give us some background information on your level of education. How am i supposed to know if there is any chance of you working for jagex if i have no idea what level of education Jagex expects its workers to have? If i were you work for a larger company if your interested in game plot/story development, maybe something with a better paycheck that also is based in America.

 

The expectations for working at Jagex are extremely high... and trust me, like I stated above and the person who also stated before this post.... 30k USD a year is shit.

I've looked at their brochure, and it looks like a pretty pimping place to work. They have a rec room with every game system, cafeteria, etc etc lol

To start, I'd go to a local college and major in Information Technology or another computer field. Keep playing Runescape, and try to keep blackmarks off your account.

If possible, try for a spot as a forum or player mod, it'll help with your interview plus it'll get you some mod connections

 

I think it'd be a really cool job, playing RS for a living would be amazing. I'd see if I could create an all 99 account though

 

it would not depend on your ingame status, you can apply for positions on their website, provided you have the appropriate degrees.
