You believe in one thing that hasn't been discovered, but not the other? That seems quite illogical to me. Here's three equally (if not MORE) plausible reasons not to believe in God that refute much of what is said in the Bible/by God-followers: Big Bang Theory. Abiogenesis. Evolution.

You have not explored the entire Milky Way - but my argument was a satirical mocking of yours. You see something that you cannot explain, and say that God did it. Another might see that same something, and say that aliens did it.

1). It's very first point is flawed - the Mayans did NOT predict the end of the world. Their calendar simply stopped.

2). Solar activity is cyclic and has been for its entire history. It gets better, then it gets worse. Right now, it is getting worse, but soon enough, it will reach its peak and begin to lessen.

3). http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/10/01/lhc_lawsuit_thrown_out/ - The LHC is safe. It will not end the world. Please don't subscribe to sensationalist pseudo-physics.

4). The Bible says it? I say that the Bible is a collection of ancient Jewish literature (with some reformist teachings thrown in) and has no prophetic value.

5). A super volcano could erupt, but that would hardly "end the world". Life has survived far worse. Also, I would like evidence that a super volcano will erupt in the next four years.

6). Their perception of probability is flawed. If every year, there is a 1/100 chance of a huge meteor blazing across the sky, that does not mean that after 99 years, you are guaranteed to get a meteor the next year - the odds of that will still be 1/100.

7). Magnetic reversal takes approximately 7,000 years, and will not completely expose us to the full force of the sun's UV rays while it does so.

Leave the amateur blogs, leave the sites that feed you what you want to hear, and go do some research yourself.

I have researched this extensively. There is no evidence that the world is going to end in the year 2012.

Newspapers are published by humans, and humans are not infallible.

Have you ever flipped a coin? You should know that previous trials don't effect future results (basically what Shredder said about point 7, just dumbed down so you could understand it better).

yeah shredder and people have a point, but even if God doesn't exist, don't you believe the fact that people die for their "religion" shows that the original person who thought of something to bring hope by, worked?

 

It may have worked, but that doesn't mean that there is actually a God. What about, just an example from history, the witchhunts around the 1500's in Europe? Just because everyone wanted to find these witches (use them as a scapegoat), does that mean that witches actually exist? Of course not - it's proganda at its best.

The point is that when making a claim, the burden of proof falls upon the one who asserts a positive claim (God exists, you are a scammer, etc.).

I doubt that the founders of religions do it just to bring hope to people.

The theory is that the world was made - And its thought that it was either controlled by a 'thing' (e.g. GOD) or via science.

They see the chemical reaction that caused the big bang, but what made the reaction happen.. The answer is God, or not?
