    "Quoting Posts" --> Why?

Before you start thinking I want to remove the quoting feature, I want to explain this a bit better.

If you were to quote a post, let's say - the first post on my RS Skilling Thread, you would quote it like this:
. We are all aware of this.

When you quote something, next to the person's name you see a little arrow thingy with a link, in this case the link would be http://sythe.org/showthread.php?p=3997631#post3997631, which automatically directs you to that post and scrolls down on the page. However, some browsers (Google Chrome) don't support insta-jumping (like Wikipedia, for example, when you click the TOC).

I want to know why, instead of that link, we can't just have http://sythe.org/showpost.php?p=3997631&postcount=1 be the link for the blue arrow thingy. Don't you think it'd be easier to use that, to see exactly what was quoted on every browser? Or maybe, you could quote both ways, and have the default be one way but you could manually change it (like [QUOTE2] tags to link directly to the post).

It's a small thing, but it would definitely make stuff a bit easier for me (like the vouches in my profile, for example, I could directly link to for every supported browser). I know I could create an image, and have it be hyperlinked, but that's quite a hassle...

Or maybe I'm just retarded or something, but all I know is when I'm using Google Chrome and I quote something, it takes me to the page but not the specific post.

    Supported.
I do think that is annoying as I am on my own custom browser and I haven't put that in yet.

Ummmmmmm, Google Chrome works fine with these quotes, as do EVERY SINGLE MAJOR BROWSER.

There is no point to change it.

    SOLUTION:

When you use a beta browser, you know it's in beta and not all features work, so don't try and dumb down the sites you use for everybody because of your own technical limitations.

Neither of you have addressed the issue. If ANYBODY is harmed by this, at ANY time, why can't we add *an additional* feature allowing you do do something called "QUOTE2" that links directly to the post. I know it's not a big deal, but neither of you have given a good counter-argument as to why NOT include it.

If it's something so easy to implement, why not?

I agree. I don't think they should change it, I like it just the way it is.

Adequate solution, but as I mentioned before - is there really a REASON not to implement a "QUOTE2" tag that stubborn morons like me could use? Also, what if there's a really disturbing image on the thread, and then you have a vouch as the previous post? Do you really want the two to have this juxtaposition? IDK, I just don't see who it could possibly hurt.

    Why, thank you.
Because then Matthew would have to take time out of his busy schedule to implement something that the site could go without.
Then we'd delete the "very disturbing image".

The YouTube tags are something that isn't too necessary...Most of the BBC markup is quite unecessary, actually. But I agree, it would waste some time, but it wouldn't take long at all.

Well what if it's something that isn't against Sythe rules, per say, but just doesn't juxtapose nicely with the post you want to quote?

My basic argument: It would be *very simple to implement* yet it could help a few people in a few ways.

The BBC markup is apart of VBulletin. Matthew doesn't need to code it, however he'd have to code the quote change.

You quote it and remove it from the quote, just like what we've been doing in this thread.

Explain the process on what he would have to do.

My basic argument is: Don't fix what's not already broken.

You sure YouTube comes standard? Well, good point nonetheless.

What exactly do you mean? What if you quote this post, but some noob after me posts like "FUCK YOU MATTHEW YOU LICK PENIS" and I don't want you to see that; if you clicked on my quote-button, you would see that. The main reason I want this feature is because of the vouches in the user profile; if you'd look at my profile, you'd see all my vouches say "VOUCH" and then I tell you to click the link for the actual post because I don't want to run out of room. I want it to be nice and easy to directly link to the post.

I don't really know what Matthew would have to do, but I'm sure he could figure it out. I have found a link though:
    http://www.phpbbhacks.com/download/52

I've seen quite a few forums with this feature.

I'm pretty sure the markup is standard, I've seen it on every other forum I've been a member of. I think you need to update the license if you have an old copy though.

I honestly couldn't care less if I saw that, because I'd just infract and have one of the community mods delete the post.

I'm pretty sure Matthew doesn't want to have to code things that aren't necessary for the site, or that won't improve the site. IE. we can live without it.

I'm actually using Google Chrome at this very moment and have been since it's release. I'm not sure why yours doesn't scroll to the post automatically, mine does. Perhaps click the link and leave it for a moment, as it may take a second to jump down to the post.

I think this may be your own technical problem. You can argue it all you want, but
    1) if an extra scroll really inconveniences you that much....seriously
    2) time is money, a completely unneeded extra quote option would not be worth the time to code it. You'll have to scroll for the extra 5 seconds of your life it doesn't work on your browser.
    3) you really can't compare your idea to an "unnecessary" tag like the
