Soooo Slow!!!

Earlier this week, I noticed that my computer has been growing slower and slower by the day. Here are the specs of my computer. Could I get someone to figure out the problem please? And, by slow, I mean that it takes so long for programs to respond.

Specs:

• RAM - 1.75GB
• Operating System - Windows XP Home Edition
• Pentium 4 CPU 2.80GHz
• The computer was built by my friend a few years ago... So I guess that explains the Pentium 4

 

By looking at your specs you should have sufficient memory and whatnot to run your programs. Have you tried checking your processes list to find out what's taking up your CPU?

If you don't know how, just post a screenshot of them here and I can try to help you.

 

Well have you re-formatted since your friend built the pc? Do you keep active firewalls and do active virus, spyware, etc scans? that would help us out alot.

Meh, just ran SpyBot Search & Destroy. CPU usage is now averaging about 20%. I also ran a few other things. Found about 4GB of Temp files. Computer is faster now. Thanks for the help!!

 

defrag your HD.

 

run internet security programs and also use programs like ccleaner, defrag, disk cleanup etc..
