    Gears: A History

The Gears storyline begins about 20 years before the present point in the plot, on the planet of Sera.

    Section A1: Gears of War

The Lightmass Process is finally perfected, a process then turns the abudant Imulsion gas into powerful energy. Some countries are Imulsion abundant, some have little or none. Some of the richest nations become poor and the poorest nations become powers. Then the Pendulum Wars began, and nations without a healthy supply of the new fuel attacked the nations who had tons of it. After a long war filled with pointless death, humanity finally found peace. For a short while.....

A "Locust Horde" launches an assault on humanity from below, taking humans by surprise and they emerge from the soil. Hence, it the day was called E-Day (Emergence Day).

The giant Corpsers burst from the ground, and then swarms of Locust Drones emerged from the tunnels the Corpsers laid. In one day, 1/4 of the human race extinguished and humans beat a hasty retreat.

One of the valiant fighters from the Pendulum Wars, Marcus Fenix, is sentenced to 40 years in the Jacinto maximun security prison for deserting a combat situation (he disobeyed orders to find his father, who was in grave danger and ended up dying anyways). After about 4 years in prison, the COG (the military's name; individual soldiers are called "Gears") released him, deciding they needed someone of his skill to fight the Locust. His friend, Dominic Santiago, rescued him at high risk to his own safety, and took him to Delta Squad, where Lieutenant Minh Young Kim is in command. [Fenix later became leader].

Delta Squad seeks to obtain the resonator, a device that when detonated will map the entire Locust Tunnel system, a major advantage for the COG. Delta squad succeeds in finding the resonator, along with the remnants of Alpha Squad, including the men that later become some of his closest friends, Augustus Cole and Damon Baird.

General RAAM, the military head [of the Locust] and extremely powerful individual, slaughters Lieutenant Kim. Command promotes Marcus Fenix to head of Delta Squad, along with a promotion to Sergeant.

Delta Squad detonates the resonator, but are disappointed to find that the device did not map all of the Locust tunnels. Luckily, the resonator managed to map a large part of the Locust Tunnels, and Delta Squad pinpoints the activity under Marcus's Father's mansion.

As Delta Squad fight their way to the estate [encountering no shortage of hostiles], and kill General RAAM. They collect the necessary data and head to an alternate location. They detonate the Lightmass Bomb which the COG hopes will decimate Locust forces.......

Section A2: Gears of War 2

The game begins with an attack on Jacinto. Delta Squad easily takes care of the raid and gets new orders. Chairman Prescott orders a full out attack on Landown, a final assault to keep the Locust from wiping humanity from the Earth. You ride in a "rig" [an assault derrick] taking out necacyst mortars, Brumaks, and ground troops along the way. You meet a Stranded, Dizzy, who was conscripted by the COG. After you arrive at Landown, the Gears get in Grindlifts, pod-like metal cases that use super heated "lasers" to dig through the ground into Locust tunnels at high speed. Just as Marcus gets in his grindlift with Dom, a powerful locust, Skorge, appears, and as their grindlift closes they see him battling Marcus's longtime friend from the Pendulum Wars, Tai Kaliso, and Dizzy.

The Gears search the Locust Hollow, and find the Locust are using something called a "riftworm" (basically a snake the size of Texas) to tunnel underneath COG cities and sink them. Along they way they are re-united with Damon Baird, and later on, Augustus Cole. Delta Squad manages to kill the riftworm from the inside, but they lost their rookie member, Benjamin Carmine. In the cinematic following, it seems one of the few times when Marcus shows sincere emotion for a fallen fellow soldier (he is not cold and unfeeling, just used to people dying).

Delta Squad's orders are updated, they now have to check out an abandoned facility. They search it, and find it is lightly inhabited by Locust but more so by a semi-sentient security system, who activates turrets. Also you find "Sires" who were once human but are now basically Locust. You shut down the system, but not before finding out where to head next. To Mount Kadar.

They enter the caverns of Kadar in a centaur tank, and battle their way through heavy Locust resistance, including 3 corpsers and 2 Brumaks. Eventually they find an entrance where several stranded are, well, stranded. They tell them to leave and make their way to "Nexus", the Locust Stronghold.

Along the way, Dom finds his wife (who he has been searching for forever), but she has been broken by Locust torture and no longer recognizes him. Dom is forced to kill her, to put her out of her suffering and vegetative state. It hurts Dom badly to to it.

Dom and Marcus enter Nexus, fighting through extremely heavy resistance, and eventually meet up with Baird and Cole, who came down through Grindlifts. They fight their way to the Locust Queen, who chats with them briefly, and then tells her powerful bodyguard, Skorge, to kill you. Baird and Cole go after the Queen and Marcus and Dom battle Skorge. Eventually, he flees but is not defeated, not yet.

You meet up with Baird and Cole again, and they say the Queen escape. All four of you hop on Reavers, and are suddenly chased by Skorge, and his giant mutated Reaver mount, the Hydra. A long battle in the air ensues, with Marcus eventually winning. They fly back to Jacinto, which is now under heavy attack. You defend it, and are given new orders to detonate another Lightmass Bomb (to sink Jacinto on top of the Locust).

You head through the sunken part of Jacinto and eventually hijack a Brumak. You fight through waves of Locust and the Lightmass Bomb is delivered via Helicopter, only to have the helicopter swatted from the sky. The Brumak then turns Lambent, and instead you kill the Brumak, using its explosion as a bomb. Jacinto sinks on top of the Locust, but it seems there is more to come.....

    Characters of the COG

    Section B1: Marcus Fenix

Marcus Fenix is an extremely courageous Gear, perhaps the best soldier in the COG. He has killed the two most powerful Locust to date, General RAAM and Skorge, and thousands of standard troops. He never seems to be afraid and is often somewhat enthusiastic about more adventure. Fenix was imprisoned, but was released and is now the head of Delta Squad.

    Section B2: Dominic Santiago

Dominic has been Marcus's longtime friend and has stuck with him through pretty much everything. Dom always has Marcus's back and almost the equal of Marcus in combat. Dominic seems to be cheery to people that don't know him well, but when he's alone he slips into a dark sadness, and longing for his lost wife Maria.

    Section B3: Damon Baird

My favourite COG character. Damon Baird is a cynical, sarcastic, and witty. Damon Baird is also pretty fearsome in combat, but he is also a top-notch mechanic. He does hold minor grudges, however (such as when Marcus was promoted to leader of Delta, but has become fast friends with him, along with Dominic Santiago and Augustus Cole. Because of his cynical and sometimes negative character, Damon does not make friends easily. However, I think he prefers to be isolated with only a few close friends.

    Section B4: Augustus Cole

Augustus "Cole-Train" Cole was a former thrash ball player, nick-named the cole-train. This is actually a parody of the famous Alto Saxophone player's name, John Coltrane. Augustus is close friends with Damon Baird, and they were in Alpha Squad together. Cole is basically a human tank with a will to fight. He never seems to get really angry, only frustrated, and for the most part he is cheery.

    Section B5: Tai Kaliso

Tai Kaliso, spiritual warrior, believes everything happens for a reason. Intriguing but not altogether what I think. Tai is extremely brave and fought with Marcus in the Pendulum Wars. Tai has been believed dead so many times but survived that Marcus has come to believe that he is nearly un-killable. Unfortunately, Marcus is proven wrong halfway through Act II, when Tai kills himself, as he has gone insane from Locust torture and just wants to end it all. His death is one of few that seems to deeply affect Marcus.

    Section B6: Benjamin Carmine

Benjamin Carmine, the "rook" of Delta, joined up when his brother Anthony died (in the previous Gears). Carmine is very sentimental, feeling for everyone who falls and generally inquisitive as only a newb is. Ironically, he uses the long shot sniper rifle, the same rifle that blew off his brother's head in the previous Gears of War. At one point in the game, Ben advises Dom to wear a helmet so he doesn't have to breath in the dust. Dom replies, aggressively, "Well then I wouldn't be able to see snipers so well, would I?". Marcus tells Dom to cool it, but for Gears veterans you see the oblique reference to Anthony's death in Gears of War 1. This also suggests that Ben has no idea how Anthony died, only that he died a "heroic" death. Ben also says that he had 3 other brothers, so 4 Carmines in total. The first Carmine was Anthony, the second was Ben, then Clay. It is assumed the fourth's name will start with a "D". Ben dies inside the riftworm, half eaten by Nemacites. Before he dies, he speaks with Marcus. Again, his death is one of few that leaves Marcus shaken.

    Section B7: Dizzy Wallin

Dizzy Wallin was a former "Stranded" (one who could not be evacuated on E-Day). Conscripted by the COG, he now drives the assault derrick he named "Betty". Delta only meets him a short while, but he is an instrumental character and forms a short friendship with Delta. Unfortunately, it is assumed that Dizzy dies while holding off Skorge (so Marcus and Dom can escape in the Grindlift).

    The Locust Horde

    Section C1: Drones

Drones are the standard ground troop for the Locust. They are found in great numbers, and although because they are the "standard" infantry they are in no way any less dangerous because of it. Drones are cunning and use cover well, making them a formidable foe when they are fought in large numbers. There are many drone variants.

    1. "Default" drone. Looks standard and is equipped with a Hammerburst assault rifle.
    2. "Bolters". Equipped with Boltok pistol. Slightly faster but with less health.
    3. Sniper. Equipped with the longshot life. Poor health, but they are usually at long range.
    4. Cyclops (one eyed-mask). They use a captured lancer. Beware at close range, they will chainsaw you!
    5. Gunner. They are nearly always manning Troika turrets. They use the Hammerburst if you get too close.
    6. Locust Hunter. Only seen in concept art, the Locust Hunter would be identical to a drone but armed with the Torque Bow. The Theron Guard was created in its place however.

    Section C2: Grenadiers

Grenadiers are really just drones that are a bit pumped up and wield shotguns. They wear no chest armor and are easily distinguishable. Beware of them on Insane, the powerful shotgun can kill you from pretty far away due to the damage and health multipliers. Grenadiers are a sub-class of drones, but there are also sub-classes of grenadiers! They do use grenades but not as often as you might think. Their throws are quite accurate though, so be on your guard!

    • Grenadier. No chest armor, wields the Gnasher Shotgun.
    • Grenadier Elites. Same as a regular Grenadier except they are stronger, tougher, and more powerful than regular Grenadiers, though they look identical.
    • Flame Grenadiers. They look identical to Flamers but they are slightly smaller. They wield the Scorcher flamethrower.

    Section C3: Boomer Class Locust

The Boomer (the big oafish-looking Locust on the right with the big gun) is basically a walking tank. With tons of health and enough firepower to decimate battalions of COG, the Boomer is a serious threat to any Gear. There are several classes of Boomers, all are powerful.

    • Boomer. Carries the "Boomshot", which is basically a handheld cannon. Extremely dangerous. Usually, before they fire, they shout "BOOM" giving you a split second to find cover.
    • Flamer. Heavily armored, carries the Scorcher. Packs a lot of hitpoints. Not especially dangerous if you keep it far away. DO NOT MISTAKE FOR FLAME GRENADIER. If it gets close and pushes you against a wall, you are dead. Shouts "FLAME" before firing.
    • Mauler. EXTREMELY HEAVILY ARMORED. LOTS OF HEALTH. Mauler's tied for most dangerous Boomer variant. Their Boomshield makes them nearly invincible until they are close, and their explosive flail knocks you down. If it gets close, you are probably going to die. They usually shout "CRUSH" but before a charge they sometimes yell "CHARGE".
    • Grinder. Tied with Mauler for most dangerous Boomer. The Grinder carries the mulcher, a handheld chaingun. If you are in the open, you are dead. Like all other Boomers, they shout "GRIND" before firing, giving you an advantage.
    • Butcher, only encountered once. Pretty tame, if they get close their cleavers will not one hit you, even on insane. They are slow and do not even charge like Maulers. Only seen once, if you are killed by one it is an embarrassment. Does not shout anything.

    Section C4: Berserkers

Female Locust that are blind. Extremely powerful, they only rely on smell and sound. Not seen in GOW2, but they are only affected by the Hammer of Dawn.

    Section C5: Elite Guard Locust

The two guard class locust are both extremely dangerous and extremely powerful.

The Theron Guard is the offensive version. They can be found anywhere, and are both cunning, use cover exceptionally, and very dangerous. They wield the Torque Bow which is instantly lethal on Hardcore and Insane and very dangerous on Normal and Casual. When a Torque Bow is being charged an orange glow is easily visible, giving the Theron away. Concentrate on taking out everything else while avoiding the Theron's arrows. Once every other threat is eliminated, move in where the Torque Bow is less effective and the Theron cannot use cover as well.

The Palace Guard is even more powerful, cunning, and armored than its offensive counterpart, the Theron. The Palace Guard, obviously, guards the Palace so when fighting they are only defending the Palace. Palace guards can and do use multiple weapons, making them the only ground troop to switch weapons. This is dangerous, as a Palace Guard you thought was carrying a Hammerburst can quickly switch to a shotgun at close range and take you out in one shot.

    A Theron Guard

Palace Guards sometimes carry Torque Bows, making them even more dangerous. They can also ride Bloodmounts, so the most dangerous combination you will find is a Torque Bow wielding Palace Guard mounted on a Bloodmount. Since Bloodmount are given priority, however, a Palace Guard wielding a shotgun can be equally dangerous because you may not be paying attention.

A Palace Guard Cradling a Torque Bow

    Section C6: Bloodmounts

Bloodmounts are probably the most dangerous commonly encountered ground troops. Their riders can shoot over your cover, and the Bloodmount itself can kill you in one or two hits with its stabbing front claws.

    Section C7: Brumaks

Brumaks are the most dangerous ground troops in an unconventional way. Huge, and powerful, Brumaks are basically walking siege engines that can take on pretty much anything and win. Brumaks are the second most powerful Locust unit, and the most powerful Locust Unit that is used as an attack unit. Luckily, the only times you face Brumaks you are in powerful artillery units. It is assumed Brumaks are not sentient as they need riders.

    Section C8: Corpsers

Corpsers are the most powerful common Locust, but they are not used for combat. Their strong spidery arms are ideal for digging, and corpsers play more of a strategic role than an offensive one. Corpsers have been know to engage directly in combat, however, and can take down all manner of vehicles and ground troops with relative ease.

Corpsers only weakness are a soft underbelly usually protected by their tough arms, and hitting them here with extremely powerful weaponry is the only way to defeat them. Corpsers are a huge threat to vehicles and have been know to eat COG forces alive. It is unknown whether Corpsers are sentient or not.

    Section C9: Reavers

Another deadly locust, the powerful reaver is a distressingly common sight in battle. Reavers are like flying bloodmounts, but three times as powerful and ten times as dangerous. A reaver carries a rider and a gunner. The reaver's gunner uses a chaingun, and the reaver can also fire rockets. The reaver is weaker in the air (still strong though), but when it lands it becomes a chore to dispatch. Reavers can stab you with their legs and their riders can shoot over your cover. Use your most powerful weaponry when facing them. Reavers are the only known Locust air troops (not including Nemacysts).

    Section C10: Kantus Priests

Kantus are a special category. They are the religious figureheads of Locust belief, but they are also formidable foes in combat. They use the powerful Gorgon Pistol, and also throw ink grenades. The Kantus also employ a scream which raises downed Locust (downed but not out locust, not dead locust) and knocks you to the ground at close range. The Kantus are also intelligent and use cover and rolling to their advantage. Kantus are easily visible by their different headgear and their long cloaks.

Section C11: Tickers, Wretches, Nemacytes, Seeders, and Nemacysts

All of these enemies can be killed very easily, with the exception of the Seeder which you do not get to engage except when riding a Brumak. Nemacysts are fired by Seeders, they are basically organic mortars. They look kind of like jellyfish.

Tickers are little kamikaze locust that scuttle around. Locust use them as mines to destroy both ground troops and vehicles of the COG.

Nemacytes are only encountered inside the riftworm. Similar to wretches, with a different name and slightly different appearance.

Wretches are encountered in a few places during the campaign. Wretches are small (about 3-4 feet tall, but they hunch over) and run with a kind of limping gait. They only use melee and are very weak on the health front. Unfortunately, wretch's melee attacks are quite powerful. On insane, two hits are enough to kill you (another bad: they're attacks come very quickly), and wretches always attack in packs. They are also fast and use cover quite well. Wretches can be a real pain.

The easiest way to kill them is to lancer them from afar, taking out as many as you can (you can take out packs at a time by using the Boomshot or Torque Bow from afar). When they get close, use powerful weapons such as the shotgun or scorcher. If you have neither, the Lancer's chainsaw is an acceptable alternative as you are in "god mode" (you cannot be damaged) while chainsawing in campaign (does not apply anymore in multiplayer).

    Special Enemies

    Section C12: The Leviathon

The Leviathon is a lake monster (boss fight). Pretty easy to kill on all difficulties, dodge the tentacles and throw grenades in the mouth to defeat.

    Section C13: 3x Corpser

At one point you fight 3 corpsers. Fortunately, the corpsers are extremely easy to kill and the game dumbs them down. They only attack one at a time, and very slowly, and it only requires one Centaur shot to the underbelly to kill one. Unrealistic and kind of dissapointing.

    Section C14: Torture Barge

A living being, the barge is unkillable at this time.

    Section C15: Skorge

Identical to a Kantus priest, but with dreadlocks, Skorge is General RAAM's replacement. He wields a dual-chainsaw staff and uses the same Kantus as standard Kantus. He also rides the mutated reaver (the Hydra) mount.

Section D: Weapons and Their Damages

    Ranges

In Gears of War 2, a strange system of damage is used. There are three ranges: close range, medium range, and long range. It is impossible to tell where these ranges start or end, but in the game it is fairly obvious. Weapons do different damage based on the range and difficulty. This section will be coded in SHORT/MEDIUM/LONG so if you see 50/50/20, it means 50 at close, 50 at medium, and 20 at long. These damages are 100% correct, I do not care whether you have Gears wikied them etc. these are verified by a game developer I know, so Ha! :p

All damages in multiplayer are equal to Hardcore/Insane damages.

    Section D1: The COG Lancer

The COG Lancer is a brutal looking weapon, with a chainsaw bayonet mounted on the underside. The Lancer is fully automatic and good at close to medium range. At long range it is acceptable if nothing else is readily available. The bayonet is deadly at close range, a hit hit kill every time. The lancer is most likely the best primary weapon for campaign and one of the best weapons in multiplayer.

    Casual Damage: 80/80/48
    Normal Damage: 56/56/33.6
    Hardcore/Insane Damage: 40/40/24
    Casual Melee: 1 hit
    Normal Melee: 1 hit
    Hardcore/Insane Melee: 1 hit

    Section D2: The Locust Hammerburst

The Locust Hammerburst is my preferred primary weapon in campaign and multiplayer (on Insane, Lancer for anything below). More powerful, but slower and with less ammo, than the lancer, the Hammerburst is a powerful piece of equipment. The Hammerburst excels at medieum range; it has a semi-zoom and it also gets headshots (this means their head explodes, no chance of downing them only for them to be revived). The Hammerburst's ammo is abundant as it is the enemies primary weapon. Strangely the Hammerburst is no longer a burst weapon like it was in Gears 1.

    Casual: 160/160/96
    Normal: 112/112/87
    Hardcore/Insane: 80/80/48
    Casual Melee: 192
    Normal Melee: 134
    Hardcore/Insane Melee: 48

    Section D3: The Gnasher Shotgun

A power unto itself in multiplayer, the Gnasher shotgun is easily the best close range weapon in the game when in the hands of a skilled player. The Gnasher's damage may be the same at medium range, but after approximately 3 feet the bullets are no longer accurate enough to be a one hit kill. The shotgun defies normal rules and actually does its casual damage at close range in multiplayer, making it super deadly (close range is approximately 0-10 feet)

    Casual: 900/900/600
    Normal: 630/630/420
    Hardcore/Insane: 450/450/300
    Casual Melee: 1000
    Normal Melee: 700
    Hardcore/Insane Melee: 500

    Section D4: The Longshot

The Longshot is the only sniper rifle in Gears of War and is also the premier long range weapon. Unfortunately, it is outstripped by the Torque Bow in both damage and usefulness. The only real advantage of the Longshot is in campaign when you can use the scope from very far away.

    Casual: 840/700/70
    Normal: 588/490/490

Finishing testing, will be done by the end of tomorrow!

    Enemy Health

Also coming soon...(testing at the moment)

    Vehicles

    Section F1: The Assault Derrick

You do not get to drive, but you do get to ride one. The assault derrick is a troop carrier equipped with a mulcher chaingun. It is not really used for combat, but can be if need be.

    Section F2: Centaur Tank

The Centaur Tank is a powerful, light, and fast tank equipped with a powerful gun. This is the main combat tank, and can rival Brumaks! Corpsers not as much, although you do get to take out 3 corpsers in it!

    Section F3: King Raven Helicopter

Basically the Gears of War equivalent of an Apache attack helicopter.

    Multiplayer Strategies

    Section G1: The Chainsaw Technique

First off, I do not support this technique. This will generally get you called a noob and does not take any talent. The chain is now an animation, and once you start revving it, the chainsaw cannot be stopped. This is cause for complaint, as it means that there is no way of killing a chainsawer once they are near. Also, in Gears 2 a "chainsaw lunge" has been accidentally (I hope) implemented, meaning that the chainsaw now acts as a Halo Energy Sword (except you cannot be shotgunned halfway through the lunge). The lunge is not as dramatic, but it is big enough to be noticed and big enough for people to complain.

Again, I don't recommend this but it is viable. This tactic entails roadie running around the map, and getting behind the opposition. While they are busy aiming or fighting or whatever, you roadie run up and chainsaw them in the back. Simple, effective, nooby?

This will earn you a lot of criticism, and honestly takes 0 skill. Also, if you run into combat along the way you are dead. When chainsawing you can be killed so that is another disadvantage.

Section G2: The Shotgun: Run and Gun

This is my personal favorite tactic for racking up kills without a power weapon. A skilled player with a shotgun in his hands is lethal, especially if he has active reload. Also most of the Gears of War multiplayer combat takes place at close range, and for a skilled player the shotgun is king here. If you know the range of an instant kill by experience, and know the range of the chainsaw lunge, also by experience, you will find yourself beating chainsawers time and time again, with no trouble.

Cover is important while using the shotgun. Not for what you think, though. If there is a pillar nearby and someone not far ahead also using the shotgun, and he fires. If you know how to time it, you can slide into the cover and immediately fire, with you blowing him into bits and him missing. This works because you slide into cover many times faster than you can run or roll. So if you bounce around cover, you can easily confuse your opponent, and dispatch them with ease just because you used a simple trick.

Smoke Grenades are key! I see people running in often without smoking, why? As soon as you spawn, switch to your smoke. When you run into an enemy, just blind throw it (use training or horde to get comfortable with blind throwing grenades, its easy when your used to it!), switch to your shotgun, and kill them as they are lying on the ground. Easy kill (in king of the hill I have killed the whole team many times just from smoking and killing them when they are helpless).

Section G3: The Hammerburst, King of Headshots

Many people choose the Lancer as the default weapon, due to its chainsaw. If you are using the shotgun tactic, why choose the Lancer? You won't ever use the chainsaw. The Hammerburst is more powerful, and gets headshots! (meaning after several shots to the head it explodes, so they cannot be downed similar to the Longshots headshot ability and the way a shotgun blows people to a million pieces).

A simple tactic is just to shoot them over and over while they charge you. As I said, most combat is at close range, and many people sub-consciously take this to heart, and never use their ranged weapon. They just charge. Let your enemy come to you. This works with the Lancer as well. As they run at you, unload on them with automatic fire and down them before they can even get near you. Simple but I rarely see anyone but me employing it.

Section G4: Revive Your Goddamn Teammates

Man, it really makes me mad when your lying downed next to your team and they just run by. You get points for reviving them, plus it benefits your team. So why do people not revive? Because they are lazy or dumb. Just revive people if you can (but don't charge an enemy team just to revive someone).

That's all for common strategies, but there are plenty of individual weapon strategies below.

    Multiplayer Weapon Strategy

    Section H1: Torque Bow

This weapon is simply god-like if you are skilled with it. If you are good with this you can go on 20+ kill rampages, picking up the respawning ammo. Since the glow gives you away, try not to miss, or the whole team will come after you. This is more useful than the longshot in multiplayer since you get an advanced targeting system, and also because you get headshots with it. The real advantage over the longshot is that body shots are one hit kills and they can also hurt or kill nearby enemies, and that the Torque Bow is alright at close range.

If they get close, begin charging. When they try to make their move, use the shotgun "cover-jump" to avoid whatever attack they are trying, and then zoom and tag them. Simple, effective if you have good aim, and it keeps you alive.

When picking up the torque bow, swap it for your Lancer or Hammerburst, because the Torque Bow is a long range weapon, and ultimately the shotgun is more useful than the Lancer or Hammer. If you favour the Lancer, or already have swapped a power weapon for your Lancer, you can swap for the shotgun and use the close range techniques detailed above.

Section H2: Boomshot, Longshot and Hammer of Dawn

No strategy needed, aim and fire and you will get a kill. With the longshot you will need headshots.

    Section H3: Ink Grenades

Sometimes twice as useful as frags, inks can be sooo deadly if used right. The ink grenade has a kill speed of about 3 seconds, so lobbing one into a King of the Hill area while its enemy controlled will have them clearing out or dying. Sometimes if you weak groups of enemies and they use cover, you can lob an ink to take them out simultaneously (yes its possible, I have killed a whole team with one ink, but often you get kills ranging from 1-3 people).

    Section H4: Frag Grenades

The preferred grenade, for simple reason: kills all enemies within about 15 feet. So while ink grenades may clear an area, you can kill all the enemies instantly with one of these. The frag is good for anything involving killing enemies, and is surpassed by the ink grenade in painfully few circumstances. Plant a grenade like a proximity mine on a wall with B. This is a good tactic as teammates cannot trigger it, but an enemy team running by after respawning can kill their whole team.

Note: Planting is equally useful with smoke grenades, when defending a location. They can cut of choke points, and give away enemies trying to sneak up on you.

That is it for weapons that have strategies, the rest (like pistols) are simple. Aim, and fire. :p

    Rumors

Because Gears of War 2 ended with a poor ending, and the Queen is left alive, it is assumed that Gears of War 3 will be making an entrance sometime around 2010/11.

Thank you for reading, the weapon and enemy sections will be complete after I am done testing them on my X-Box.

Special Thanks to MatthewGor123 for suggestion the organization system in his comment!

    .::Gears of War 2 Guide::.

Probably the best put-together guide on Sythe. Some guides are short and simple, other guides are LONG AND EPIC. This would definitely fall into that category. However, this thread is going to be full of short posts saying "d00d holy shit this is fucking epic" so I might as well add a tiny bit of constructive criticism while I'm at it.

    1) Slightly better organization in terms of the color scheme and whatnot. You have obviously divided it into sections/subsections, like an outline - but maybe if you improved this outline format a bit more, it'd turn out better. Just kinda keeping it uniform. You could check out our (Me and Unb4nn3d) Ultimate Guide to Math to get a better understanding of what I mean by this.

Basically, have the 8 subsections you named at the top (Characters, Strategies, etc.) be like:

    A. Gears: A History
    B. Characters of the COG
    C. The Locust Horde
    D. Weapons and their damages
    E. Enemy Health
    F. Vehicles
    G. Multiplayer Strategies
    H. Multiplayer Weapon Strategy

and have these all be the same size and color [preferably, size 5, 6, or 7]. Then, for sections where you have subsections (like The Locust Horde, where you describe all the different types of locusts), divide that into like:
C1. Basic Locusts (1 size smaller than your main sections, the same color as C2, C3, C4, etc.)
C1A. Drones (1 size smaller than C1, different color from C1)
C2A. Grenadiers (same size as C1A, maybe a different color)
    C2. Boomers (same size/color as C1)
C3. Elite Guard Locusts (same size/color as C1)
C3A. Theron Guard (same size as C3A, maybe different color)
C3B. Palace Guard (same size as C3A, maybe different color)
C3C. Bloodmarks (maybe a smaller size, because this doesn't seem as importnat)
    C4. Brumarks
    C5. Corpsers
etc, etc. This would just make this seem more professional and improve the visual organization, because (for me anyways) your color/sizing scheme doesn't make too much sense. This would apply to sectios F, G, and H as well.

Also, if you could maybe resize the pictures so they're not MASSIVE (or have thumbnails or clickable smaller versions of the images, and just mention that you can click on them for higher detail), that would be nice to.

Of course, this is all 100% up to you - the actual CONTENT of your guide is absolutely epic. I've played Gears many, many times and this DEFINITELY brought my understanding to a whole new level. I don't see a single real FAULT with the guide, these are just small ways to improve it.

-I'm curious as to how long you wrote it.

-About a week, adding text/colors etc. to images was a sizable job

-Thanks, I was saying to MatthewGor123 that it was actually you and him and your epic guides who inspired me to take up mantle in the User Education section.

To everyone else, pics have been re sized except for a choice few I have left large for impact purposes. MatthewGor123's organization suggestion has also been implemented.

Thanks, are there any mistakes you would like me to fix, or any way I could possibly make this better?

I'm loathe to disagree but you are somewhat correct. Lately the matchmaking has been better; the reason it was slow because so many people were online. Gears 2 set the record for most people on X-Box live simultaneously (1.5 million). Now that the opening weekend hype is over (like an opening movie weekend), only about 700, 000 people are online on weekends (still a ridiculous sum) and half that on weekdays. Matchmaking is a lot faster now that less people are online.

You do know its a game, and Benjamin Carmine is not a real person. I fail to see how you can declare him a "faggot" when he is just AI. As to his character and values, I kind of like him. I'm sorry if this guide contained spoilers, but perhaps you could have taken that into consideration when reading it?

Also, do you have any comments on the guide? Unless you do, I'm not really interested in your take on the game. Thanks!

I'm afraid you are sadly mistaken. I have a very low opinion of people who plagiarize, and this guide is completely mine. Perhaps instead of being spiteful and trying to discredit me, you could offer some constructive criticism. The only reason I can think that you would flame me so aggressively after a simple suggestion, is that you probably own a PS3. You need not reply, I tire of arguing with people who spontaneously spark conflict for absolutely no reason.

As a veteran gears player i thought i would have to criticize you on your multiplayer strategy, not today though. It was well written and greatly reflects my strategies almost perfectly.
