Hmm, I was thinking the answer would be something along the lines of "long necks" but I was way off.

 

i got a very hard riddle for all of you

You are the janitor at a prison with 100 prisoners locked in separate, soundproof and windowless cells.

You watch one day as the warden brings the prisoners out to a central room where there are 100 boxes laid out, labeled 1 through 100. He hands each prisoner a slip of paper and a pen, and asks everyone to write their name on their slip and hand it back to him. All the prisoner's have different names.

The warden then makes a proposition to the prisoners. He will put them back in their cells and will put each of the 100 slips of paper into a different box. The prisoners will then be brought out one by one in a random order. When a prisoner comes out, he will get to open 50 boxes. He doesn't need to preselect which boxes he'll open; he can choose as he goes along. He is also not allowed to rearrange the boxes or the names as he does this.

If any of the 50 boxes he opens contains the slip with that prisoner's name on it, then that prisoner "passes" the test. He will be sent back to his cell, all of the boxes will be closed, and the next prisoner will be brought out. However, if any prisoner opens 50 boxes and none of them contain his name, then all 100 prisoners will be executed. Note that prisoners have no way of passing information on to any of the prisoners who go after them.

If all of the prisoners are able to "pass" the test, then they will all be set free, and you'll receive a big promotion.

Luckily for the prisoners, the warden is going to let you help them in the following way. After he's put all of the names in the boxes, he will bring you into the room, let you look at all the names in all the boxes, and then, if you choose to, switch two names with each other. For example, you could switch the names in boxes 35 and 77. You are only allowed to make one switch.

After you help with this task, you will be sent out of the prison and will not be able to communicate with the prisoners.

Before this strange game begins, you get to meet with the prisoners to discuss a strategy. This strategy must have two parts:

How do you decide which names to switch, if any at all?
How does each prisoner decide which 50 boxes he will open?

What plan do you come up with to ensure that the prisoners will all go free?

thats a hard one but I think I got the answer, it was pretty confusing until I got it down on paper.

Ok so get all the prisoners together and assign each of them a number 1-100 and basically use that as their names, and have every prisoner remember which number correlates to which person. Ok so now tell them this strategy, when you open a box read the name and then think think of what name correlates to what number, ex. if joe was given the number 3, you open a box and it says joe, now you go and open the box # that is the same as the prisoners number, ex if you got joe, joe was number 3, go open box number 3. Now the last part you tell them is that they have to open the box with their number in it and it will eventually lead them to open the box with their name in it if they follow it correctly. As for the switching part, you look in all of the boxes and find a a number that all of the loops contain and switch it with a different number to half the length of all of the loops, which will be 50 now since the longest possible loop was 100, 1/2 of 100 is 50. Now each prisoner is guaranteed to get his name within opening 50 boxes.



Ok now my riddle this one is pretty hard and you are allowed to ask yes or no questions to help you answer it.

A man walks into a tv station and buys 30 seconds of commercial time, he then hands the tape he wants played to the clerk(or whoever works there) He is then told that at the time he requested his advertisement to be played someone has already purchased that air time. So he slips the guy an extra $200 and the clerk accepts it. Later that day at precisely the time he ordered his advertisement is played. And all it is is just static. Yet the man is happy. Why is this so?

 

If the answer is as long as the riddle, PLEASE dont post this, I dont want to have to think for an hour, than write for an hour. Think of a different one XD nobody will solve this w\o google.

I am about 98% sure I am right, I remember doing this riddle in my lit class last year.

EDIT: Well alright my riddle is now up for sweeps.

A man goes into an ocean-side restaurant and orders the albatross dish. He takes a single bite when the food arrives, puts down his fork, pulls out a gun, and shoots himself. Why does he do this?

 

Because it tasted like shit.

I saw this one on the runescape forums, he thought he was eating albatross, while he was really eating his friend, so he couldnt deal with it and k03d himself. or something around those lines..

 

Its long but here I go,

A few years ago he was on a desert island with 2 other people, I'll say his wife and a mate, but most people will work I think . So after awhile they get hungry etc, and his wife goes missing. His mate then says something about finding albatross and makes an albatross dish every night for however long till they are rescued, which isnt long.
When he orders the dish, he realises that its different to the albatross his friend made him, and realises that he was eating his wife. Feels shit and commits suicide.
Tahts the general jist anyway

 

I kind of remember seeing this one, I know he had like a girlfriend or fiance or something and he went on a voyage, then his girlfriend sent him notice that either she had died or that she doesnt want to see him ever again. When he went to the restaurant and ordered it she was his waitress and she didnt even say a word to him. He was allergic to the fish and deadly allergic at that and so he took a bite to commit himself to suicide since she doesnt even care about him. Then he shoots himself.

Or another variety we had was that him and his wife were on a voyage once and they say pelicans flying near the ship, his wife went to look and fell overboard and drowned. He ordered pelican soup at the restaurant and saw his wifes finger with their wedding ring on it. And since he blamed the pelicans he just shot himself.


Also another answer that someone had in my class was that this man got shipwrecked on an island with a whole crew but most of his crew died out, besides 2 other people, and he himself went blind after being in the freezing water that long. So he relies on his 2 sailers to do everything until they get rescued. And they serve him albatross soup everyday until help arrives. They later get rescues and go their seperate ways, and he is taken to a hospital and his vision restored. Later on the anniversary of their rescue he goes to a restaurant and orders albatrass soup and the chef himself brings it out. He realizes that the chef is the sailor who had served him albatrass soup on the island. He takes one bite and realizes it tastes different and way off. He then realized that on the island the sailor had been serving him the meat of the dead sailors and not albatrass soup. So he cant live with this guilt and shoots himself.

Years earlier, the man was in a plane crash on a deserted island with his friend and some other people. They were close to starving, so one day his friend and another man went out hunting for food. Only the other man returned, saying the friend had collapsed and died, but that he had managed to catch and cook some albatross on his way back. They all ate the food and were soon rescued. But when the man ordered the albatross at the restaurant, he didn't recognize the taste: he realized that he hadn't been eating albatross on that island, but in fact had been eating his own friend. Unable to deal with this reality, the man shoots himself.
