How to Open any Page From Your Desktop

Greetings. In this guide I will be showing you how to open a file from your desktop, practically instantly. The ability to do this can save you a good deal of time if you hate browsing around a million pages to find what you were looking for. You can simpy put all the pages you want on your desktop, and with a simple click, it opens the page.

    Table Of Contents
*-How to set up your Page.
*--How to edit your Link of your page.
    *
    -Conclusion

How to set up your Page
In this section I will explain how to set up your page for easy access to any website. Now, for starters, go to your desktop, and right click an open space, then hover over 'new' and click 'shortcut'.

Now a box will pop up, With the title 'Create Shortcut' and you will see : Type the location of the file. Now, click your cursor into the white box. And type to address of whatever site you want it to be the shortcut to. For our example I will use http://sythe.org . After you type it in, click 'next'.

Now once you click next you will see another white bar with a title, somewhat like: 'Type a Name for your shortcut'. In this box you can choose the name of whatever you would like the shortcut to be called. In this case I will call it 'Sythe's Homepage'. Once you are done typing it. Click Finish.

At this point you will see a little Icon on your desktop with the name you just made.

And alas, if you click the icon. Your designated Link to the site we put in, at the first step of our shortcut will open, Like so. ( In this case it was Sythe.org )

How to Edit the Link or Name Of your Shortcut Page

Now, if you for some reason wished to change the name or link of your shortcut Page, It is quite simple to change it. All you have to do is right click the icon found on your desktop, or wherever you may of moved it, Right click it, and click 'Properties'.

Now, if you wish to change the link, simply click the 'Web Document Tab' and you will see: URL:, In there you can easily change the link to whatever.

Now, if you wish to change the Shortcut name, Simply hit the 'General Tab' And change it where it says name.

    Conclusion

In conclusion, Utilizing this shortcutting technique can not only save you some time, it can make your life a litte easier, if /you/ are like I said, Not fond of having to open the internet and search forever to find your pages. So enjoy this method of shortcutting webpage, and Have fun surfing the net. Feel free to give me feedback on this guide, as it is my first.

    -Thanks

www.google.com --> How to Create URL Desktop Shortcuts. The same information, if not better, on the top 5 results. Pointless guide. You didn't even mention the easiest way to do this, lol.

In your web browser, go to File --> Save As --> Name the file whatever you want, save it wherever you want.

For the guide itself, 2/10. But I'll give you a 6 for effort, averaging out to a 4/10.

Lulz, I'm sorry I don't give good ratings for shitty and google-able guides. I want a guide to be EDUCATIONAL and to use YOUR OWN INSIGHT, not a paraphrasing of something you found on Google. You obviously know how to put together a guide quite nicely (good colors, nice pictures), but people don't really like google-able guides. You could have just linked to one of the sites and gotten the same effect, right?

Well 99% of the guides you find here on sythe is easily found on google as well. Google links to over 70% of pages on the internet and is updated every minute of the day. Of course you're going to find guides like mine, or yours, or ANYONES for that matter. <_<

What you said is half true and half not the full truth. I don't care if you take information from a ton of different sources and use that in your guide, because the truth is - nearly EVERYTHING we know, somebody else knows too, and is probably recorded somewhere, somehow. If you take unique information from 5+ sources, then it becomes a guide worth posting, because the organization is much easier to follow than if someone were to go to each of these 5 sources individually. However, no offense, but ALL of what you posted can be found on 1/2 sources with a simple search.

When you put YOUR OWN spin on a subject, it becomes a unique guide that is worth reading. However, that is pretty difficult to do with computer-related guides, because there is a very defined process FOR MOST THINGS. However, the successful people (let's say, MCR__FTW in his Visual Basic Browser guide) add their own unique touches to the guide, which they found in a different source. You put this guide together very well, but the subject is so simple and so --> EASILY <-- found on Google search that it's really not going to be that helpful. Just keep this in mind when you post future guides - before spending the time to organize the information, just check if it's on the first few pages of a Google search of a similar query to your thread title.

I looked through about 4 of your guides, and surprisingly They all can be found on google as well. You need to face the facts that everything is posted somewhere else. And if you're telling me not to post a guide like this because it's a waste of space, take off the 4 guides I read, and were all easily found on google, with no twist.

Hmm, links please? PM them to me, so we don't take up more room on this thread than necessary [*cough* double posts *cough*] -- I didn't want to start anything, all I wanted to do was ENCOURAGE you to make MORE GUIDES, just on less "concrete" subjects; it's very difficult to add your own flavor to a step-by-step guide, but it's something that definitely distinguishes it.

Btw, it's not different for Vista...

I gave constructive criticism. It's not like your spammy post will change his guides in the future - you've said what everyone else has said, you didn't give him anything to work on, etc. You ask for SUGGESTIONS and COMMENTS, not "spam away telling me what I already knew!" He *said* it's a simple guide himself. Not my fault you're fucking dumb.
