UE Ranks

but the rank gives you a sense of i accomplished something. ive earned this.

Do you really deserve a rank for helping out the community? That basically defeats the purpose of having a community. Why not just have individualism and scam everyone you can lay your hands on?

 

i LoL'd good point. but people in the black market can stay in the black market a UE rank doesnt show trust, note the little Highly trusted thing that R2 has or a mod rank would show trust but i dont think people would look at a UE rank and see that.

What is the point of this, this is against the rules of suggestion forum anyways.
The reason is pride, and showing what you know. A rank is like a gift, sort of like the cracker head of the frequent IRC rank.

 

+1. I've never been in the market (other than time I got hacked ), and never plan to really. I wouldn't want a UE rank to get trusted, I want a UE rank for a sense of pride and accomplishment. But I could promise you that it would not discourage me from posting more guides.

 

Personally, i think the U.E is shit. Every time i go in there and i see guides on how to "make the perfect sandwhich" or some gay shit like that. If you take out the rank, you weed out some of the idiots that make the idiotic guides, ultimately making the U.E what it is suppose to do.

How about you remove the User Education system entirely? It's flawed, and will never work because no one has gotten the idea right yet.

You cannot teach someone something if you refuse to learn yourself, and all of the User Educators, all they do is attempt to teach someone something they already knew. However, if a User Educator were to learn something brand new, useful, and it were to have a point, THEN MAYBE post a guide on it, it would be more interesting than direct guides posted from people who looked at google.

And no, the guides aren't directly ripped, but I could go through every god damn guide and find one similar, if not better on google.

The problem is, you're not teaching simplicity. That's what needs done. User Educators should stop posting GUIDES and start EDUCATING. Taking people under your wing, teaching them what you know: Whether it be programming, graphics, design, music, drawing, whatever the fuck you know. Posting a guide does not help a person, as they can find that information anywhere. Helping that person step by step to learn what they want to learn is what you should be doing.


The guides are complete crap, they contribute nothing to the community (I've had the section minimized for several months, and whenever I go in there, I never see a topic of interest).


If you're going to give User Educators ranks because they "Help out the community" Give everyone a fucking rank for frequent posting because they are the people who maintain traffic, and keep it interesting.

Not the snobby people in UE who think they know shit.


Pen said it shouldn't be just about programming, and he's right, it should be about things that will help these children, and young adults along in life. Everyone needs a trade, or talent when they're young so they can develop it, and use it when they are older to pursue a career.

Wrong. For one, you backseat moderated. So seriously, think before you speak. For two, there is no pride in having "User Educator" as your rank. I take pride in NOT having the rank, and still I'm still looked at as intelligent. I don't need something to wave it around, I need actual intelligence. Your badges, or ranks, mean shit to me, and don't prove that you know anything.



If you'd notice, Frequent IRC Rank is not in circulation anymore. Cracker Head is rarely given out, all the pointless ranks are being removed. Why not User Educator?

It's pointless, it serves no meaning, and all you do is say "Oh, well I deserved it"

No, you deserve nothing short of a pat on the back for telling the masses generally what they already know, or can find out and understand better from another source than yourself.


I say remove User Education and the Ranks, and replace it with a linked category... To google.com. Let those who want to learn pursue their knowledge, and let those who want to teach assist.

Don't be so sure. See, User Education gets a lot of support right now from people inside of User Education, but I know for fact that none of the admins give a shit about the section. They do what they're asked sometimes, but they all look at it as nonsensical idiots posting random information =/.

So the chances are less slim with Pen not governing the section.

 

With Pen gone, yes there is a better possibility of it being removed.
The other admins/mods don't seem to support user education anyway.

 

Pen didnt have anything to do with it. its up to the Mods/Admins as a whole.
and you dont know that the Admins dont care about it. Are you a admin? didnt think so. only the admins have the right to pick and chose what goes on and fourms are what. i belive that the UE should stay, as ive stated many times before... Look at my other post's on this.

No, it's based on the fact that I talk to all the admins (with the exception of Sythe, but I still know his opinion) often, and I've ran the section before so I know who will do stuff and who won't.

Just because they view the section, doesn't mean they like it, approve of it, or will waste their time with it.

Pen was the admin in charge of User Education, and he defended it all the time. Now that Pen is gone, UE isn't going to get as much attention as before.

It's just like when Unknown left, the other admins decided that they didn't wanna be bothered with all the requests, so they said screw that.

 

I view the User Education from time to time to see how much idiocy is in there.

We should unlock RS Nechryeal's guide and sticky it. If a guide can be found by searching the first 10 pages of any search engine, then the guide should be removed and the user infracted for being an idiot.
