    Welding/Cutting Metal Guide All types.

Hello, this is my first UE guide, so imma make it Big and good, hopefully one day The Dark will recognize me and allow me to be a part of his great team =)

This Guide is on Welding/Mig Welding/Tig Welding/ Torch Welding/ Torch Cutting

Just to let everyone know, ive been a welder for about 4 years now, went to the Tech. and learned alot, and now its time to share it with yall =)

First, I cannot Stress how much you need to wear a Helmet and gloves at all times, and closed toe shoes/long pants while doing any of these.
    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

    Basic Welding-SMAW (Stick welding)

SMAW stands for Shielded Metal Arc Welding
    [IMG][IMG]

This Requires a #10 helmet, to protect your eyes from being burned.

When stated out, Always make sure you have on proper equipment
Secondly make sure you have it grounded out,
When getting started, clean the surface of what you are going to be welding on, use a Wire brush to clean it off, once clean turn it on, get the Electrode

    [IMG](electrode)
Get within 2 inches away from the surface and drop ur helmet to cover ur face and strike the Arc, in a motion that it looks like your striking a Match, keep the electrode 1/4 IN. away from the surface, and move it in a circular motion, or a half moon. as the electrode burns down, slowly move it closer and closer so the distance will not be greater than 1/4 IN away at all times. when finished take a chipping hammer and remove the Slag, caused by the Flux on the outside of the electrode.

Note= If you go to fast, you will have a Thin weld, with alot of splatter.
ALSO if you get the electrode stuck, remove the electrode from the holder before you cut the machine off.
Last thing, All Electrodes are not the same, the 2 most common are the
    E6011 and E6013
The E stands for Electrode, the 60 stands for Tensile Str, IE 60,000 LBS, the 1 stands for possition, 1 being Any Angle. and the 1 and 3 stand for Amps.
    [IMG][IMG]

A correct weld will look like this.

    [IMG][IMG]

    MIG Welding

    MIG= Metallic Inert Gas
    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

This is probably the easyest welder to use once you get the hand of it.
This is the MIG welder, it uses a Wire feed instead of a stick electrode, the wire is inside of the machine and gets fed out by pressing the trigger.
Unlike the SMAW welder you can put this right up against the Surface without having to cover up. As any welding. please make sure you have the right equipment on.
For MIG you need a #15 Helmet.
To start, like always clean the surface, once brushed off and gauges are turned on. press the trigger untill about a inch of wire is out of the end of the gun, if more comes out remove it with Wire cutters. once the wire is ready place it up against the surface where you want to start welding, cover up and press the trigger, if you hear a loud popping noise, your either too close or to far away, correct this by moving in or out untill you get a smooth sound, when welding move side to side pulling towards the end of where you want to stop. let go of the trigger to stop

    [IMG][IMG]

    TIG Welding
    TIG= Tungsten Inert Gas

One of the Most pain in the butt's to work with lol.
if at all cost do not use this if u can avoid it.
    [IMG][IMG]

Other wise, Like alway have proper equipment on, and clean the surface.

once ready to weld, turn the gauges on, grab a welding rod. and aline the rod at a sloping angle ... like... /
once ready to weld cover up, pull the trigger and it will begin to melt the rod onto the surface of the metal creating a thin weld, don't worrie this time its ok to have a thin weld. once done simply let go of the trigger.

    [IMG][IMG]

    Torches / Torch Welding

Seems to be a very fun one

    [IMG][IMG]

    only a #5 goggles needed

Like always have proper equipment on, and have a clear area to work in, ( your working with a 1500 degree flame)
    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

When ready to cut metal, turn the guages on, and adjust the flame untill you have a small blue/white flame at the end about a inch long. to do this youll need to adjust the air and gas untill you get this "Neutral flame"
Once the flame is ready place the flame against the metal untill it starts turning red, once this happends pull the trigger to release Air, to blow the metal out of the way. thats kinda it with that. lol

    Helmets, Tint's And difference's
    [IMG][IMG]
This is the #10 helmet, its used for SMAW welding
    [IMG][IMG]
This is #15 helmet, its used for MIG/TIG welding
    [IMG][IMG]
This is #8 Mask, Used for Brazing
    [IMG][IMG]
Couldnt find a Goggle Pic but this is one, Its #5 and is used for all torch work.

You may be asking, Well Tru3... whats the # diffrence? well its the amount of tint inside the lense, the higher the number the darker the tint, unlike cars lol,
Or you may ask, well why cant i just use my #15 helmet to SMAW weld? well simply because the Tint will be to dark, and you would be unable to see the Arc.
Or you may ask, Why not just weld without a helmet? Well ok sure, u go right ahead... only if u want to become blind within Mins. lol

Thanks, ull be seeing alot more guides from me, such as one im working on now that covers ALL payment options used on sythe step by step.
Some day i wish to become a UE =)

I personally like this guide, it's unique and very informative. Although, a nice add-on would be the different masks and what they do? Because you said there's different kinds but I still don't understand about that.

    Good work, 8/10 so far.

well, although i am not really into welding / cutting metal, i think that there's effort shown in coming up with the guide as can be seen with the pictures and stoof added on to further complete his guide. If i were to rate it it would be 9 / 10, good work dude...hope my comment helps :p

I'm working on becoming a Navy Underwater Welder, so this helped very much. Although, i believe the sernario for underwater welding is much diffrent, considering you have open and closed electron welding.
