A man in Edison is hanging the American Flag upside down in distress.

Basically a man in Edison is hanging the American Flag in front of his house upside down to show that the Country is in distress.

In this article he will explain his reasoning for why he is doing this.

My question is who agrees with this and who disagrees.

Personally I disagree because hanging the American Flag upside down is the universal sign that a person is in distress, but he is not in distress, he is saying that the country is in distress. If the country is in distress than people in higher positions than him would be hanging their flag upside down, all he is doing by this is proving how idiotic he is, and insulting our country.

 

I think there's too much respect given to a cloth object that embodies nothing too sacred.

Perhaps you're giving the man much less credit than he deserves. Perhaps.

Perhaps his point of view should be looked at. I mean, hanging your flag upside down would generally mean that you're in distress. Maybe he didn't look at it that way. Maybe he meant that since the American Flag is the symbol for America, then turning the American Flag upside down would symbolize America being turned upside down.

I mean, can you blame him? Is your country truly not turned upside down?

 

Are you joking? So many Americans died for our Country, A.K.A. the flag, you think the flag isn't sacred and shouldn't be treated with respect?

Mm, the country is not being turned upside down... it always goes up and down, once Obama becomes president there is going to be change.

But the man said that the country was in distress and that's why he is hanging it upside down, so no he isn't doing it because he thinks America is being turned upside down.

 

He's just making a statement. I see no reason why he wouldn't be able to.

 

It's not that he's not able to, he is able to.

My question is do you agree or not? and don't just agree because he has the freedom to do it, I mean do you think it's right that he's doing it?

 

This is exactly what have been thinking about recently. I'm from the UK, and always see if someone in America does like anything to a flag, and someone see's it, everyone hates them. Trying to be as un-stereotypical as possible, but why do people put so much trust into a an object as simple as a shirt?

 

Because it represents more than just a shirt... The flag has been around since 1969, we sing the national anthem at Baseball, Football, Hockey, and Basketball games, etc... and when we sing it we stand, take off our caps and face the flag and just stare. It's the symbol of our nation, not just a piece of cloth.

 

The flag doesn't represent us..who we are represents us. I'm not represented by the clothes I wear, and neither should the US be.

 

Who says you would be able to wear the clothes you wear now? or live where you live? or go to school where you're going? if not for the US fighting for your freedom, the American Flag represents our freedom.

I think this is kinda stupid, and way over-rated. Obama was the first main candidate in US history to not wear a flag-pin on his jacket, did people seem to make a huge deal about that? No.

Honestly, it's quite clear that America's fucked. And who cares if it's upside-down anyways? +1 to Arya's entire post. It's not like he's burning it in public or anything.
