    The Existence of God

I belive there is a higher power because of everyone needs to belive in somthing, and somthing had to make everything we know...

    How did the begaining start?
    How did every thing start?

There has to be Somthing behind all of it... otherwise there never was a begaining there fore there wouldnt be a end?

    just speculating here

Ae you dumb? how can you say the same to me, because if you have kept up with this thread you would have noticed the several times i stated and debated my opinion on this topic previously on this thread, so obviously you are an idiot and fail, so before acting like im not stating my opinion how about going back pages and pages and reading.

For the simple reason of your last post had nothing to do with it, ive read up on your past arguments and i like what you have to say.

Ok that was kinda weird for the simple reason that, i was asking a question to see if anyone eles up here could raise more of a debate to show their opinion about my questions. seeing other peoples opinions about my questions might help me answer them

    This is what you stated:

"I belive there is a higher power because of everyone needs to belive in somthing, and somthing had to make everything we know..."

The first part is an appeal to human nature, which is, incidentally, false. Not everybody needs to believe in something.

The second part is the argument from ignorance, or God of the Gaps logic.

you see though, he believes in something that can and has been proven. If I bury my pet in the ground, it doesn't go anywhere until it begins to decay and deteriorate, it isn't any different with humans. God is just there to give us comfort that there is meaning to life. This was the biggest struggle for me giving up my beliefs, however, I personally realize it's an argument from ignorance, and gave it up until something is proven either way.

Nah that wouldn't be irrational, that would be faith.

Myself on the otherhand, I believe because I have faith and starting from a young age my parents brought me to church so I learned a lot and am pretty sure that their must be a God.

At the same time though, it cannot be proven which is true, but neither can it be proven that their is not, so this is a debate that will go nowhere in the end, but it is quite fun to state your beliefs.

    The Existence of God

can you prove your statement? just as a person in support of the believe of a higher being cannot prove it aswell making your statement just as much of an opinion based on ones views or faith in something as the other side, meaning you have no more of an arguement based on facts.

    The Existence of God

Faith is, in fact, an irrational concept.

What makes you so sure that there is a God?

Not true. There are more logical reasons that suggest that there is no God than there is those that suggest there is. Also, this debate continually goes deeper into the two party's beliefs - and in case you haven't noticed, not a single Atheist that has debated on this thread has lost.

God is, essentially, a lost cause. Eventually a day will come when all people rely on facts, theories, and experiments, and not ancient books written by people who craved loyalty and attention from the less intelligent.

    The Existence of God

First of all I'm an atheist and I have a question.

Lets say God indeed did create the world, animals, people, and all that shebang. Then at this moment what is god doing? I don't see much big things happening like a creation of another species or something. There are lots of things happening in the world, especially the problem in Africa. Millions of black poeple are dying and I don't see god making any miracle or something to fix the problem? I thought all poeple were equal in the eyes of God.

So is god a racist? or is he dormant or what?

what you are referring to im guessing the the christian god being Jehova, because god is a word that practically categorizes a higher being or creator or diety, but if you read the bible you would see the answers to your question about why innocent people die.

As I thought I stated, I do not believe in God as a BEING, but as an ideal, a God of faith. It is the fact that He cannot be rationally proven that supports faith, for faith has no place beside empirical or qualitative evidence.

    Haha, good joke.

Oh, you're being serious. Go away.

    Faith is irrational.

You believe because you have faith? Faith IS a belief.

Why are you pretty sure that there must be a God?

The burden of proof is upon the believer, as negative beliefs are the automatic belief.

So God, the supposed creator of the universe, does not exist as a being...but an ideal? So essentially God is a pretty thought that keeps us in line?

Well now first you said Faith is irrational, than right below that you said faith is a belief, and you capitalized the IS? so what were you just doing justifying yourself?

And the reason why I am pretty sure that their is a God is because of faith, and my beliefs. It's a humungous book that a bunch of people believe in, what do you think it is a conspiracy? I mean even if it wasn't true it's not like there's anything wrong with believing in it. Can you name one bad thing in the Bible?

Close. Let me clarify my point, I may not have have explained as much as I need to. I believe God does exist as an ideal; He represents the potential and positive morallity within all of us. As for being the supposed Creator of the universe, I do not really believe that. I stated earlier that I am not a fundamentalist; I believe we need to take the Bible not literally, but in a context that is appropriate for everyday life. The Bible says that God created the universe, and two millenia ago that may have been an astounding and believable feat. Many of us today believe that the universe was created by the 'big bang theory', something even I have to agree with. The Story of Creation rather reflects the unimaginable power of God; something equatable to the energy of the 'big bang'. To me, this reflects on the idea that a united humanity under a banner of truth and positive morality reflects an unfathomable power; under God, we cannot fail.

In response to 'God is a pretty thought that keeps us in line', I would have to disagree. God is represented by faith; He is something you choose to believe in, or to not believe in. God gives us choice, not direction. We are masters of our own destinies, and we choose the path we walk down. In life, God represents one of those paths.

A belief is a noun, and irrational is an adjective. The adjective describes the noun, you see, in that faith is an irrational belief.

I do not think that it's a conspiracy, I think that it's an old book written by people 2,000 years ago. I would equate it with other books written many years ago, such as the Quran, the Icelandic sagas, the Hindu Bible, etc.

If you're speaking solely about the New Testament (the Old Testament is one of the most miserable texts you will ever read), then all you're wasting is your own life. I'd be perfectly content to let you do as you wished, except that Christians are extremely politically active and attempt to impose their will upon the rest of us - so you'll excuse me for arguing with them.
