Digital transition: Kiss your TV goodbye

Don't be befuddled when your rabbit ears go static. Congress and the National Broadcasting Association has been debating this digital transition since early 2006, they've gone back and forth on it- but its finally happening.

February 17th, all analog (antenna) TV sets in the US will go OFF unless you buy a new digital converter box from, guess who... The Government! (Yay...)

I've heard cable and satellite customers will be fine, but those with rabbit ears must pay the price if they wish to stay informed. I'm sure many of you stateside have seen the commercials urging analog users to take advantage of a Government 'coupon' which, supposedly, will cover nearly the entire cost of the box, but from what I've read it will take up to 8 weeks for those coupons to get to your door.

Who today doesn't have satellite or cable?

I understand that some people deem it unnecessary because of all the extra channels, but they do have basic plans with just normal channels that you would get with an antenna.

It's not really that big of a deal, to be honest.

    70 million 'niggas'

Look outside the box on this one.

70 million Americans/residents with no TV. Anything could happen.

Well they need to dish out the money and either:

    A) Get that little box.

    B) Get satellite or cable.

    I think it's a good idea.

The pictures will be sharper, etc..

It's their fault they'll be out of TV for awhile, but atleast they'll get some exercise..

Newspapers are for news, TV for entertainment.

    This statement, is entirely true.

They can buy newspapers, or go on the internet.

There are other ways to keep up with current events other than the television.

Well lets assume that these 70 million analog users don't have Cable because they can't afford it...

Maybe for you. Not everyone in this country shares your common sense.

    Also,

I've never seen you make a constructive post, or anything longer than one sentence. I have just one question: Are you a robot?

Rofl Wendy, everyone knows Orlando's a 1337 spammer. And BTW, there are tons of services offering free transitions - you must not watch enough TV :p. It won't really harm anybody, and it's a good way of helping out Cable Companies who are all going way down (because of services like TiVo that let you skip commercials, so airtime prices are subsequently going down).

    Good answer, good answer.

Do you think this transition has no ill agenda whatsoever? I've come to discover in my years that when Government and big business agree- bad things are in the works.

Television is proven to be the cause of some cases of ADD, violent behavior, OBESITY, and poor performance in school. If you ask me television shouldn't even be around anymore, it's all about reading the newspaper and listening to the radio. So whether or not they go through with this digital law it doesn't affect me, and maybe it'll open the eyes of some people who watch too much TV..

I'm not trying to put down Norway or sound Nationalist, but Norway isn't the US. There are several key differences (Population, cultural addiction to TV, etc.) Any results from this happening in Norway will in no way reflect the effect on Americans.
