    The Existence of God

    1) Do you practice Christianity? Because why do you assume that Jesus heard God and he told him write down all this good stuff, but some person who we deem as crazy could not have communicated with God and be told to do a lot of bad stuff, by the same logic?
    2) Works in the creation of everything: 1) Big Bang for Earth's creation, 2) Abiogenesis for life's creation, 3) Evolution for, well, evolution?
    3) Prophets still do exist today, we just don't hear about them because religion is quite well-defined in our society. However, Mormonism was founded by Joseph Smith, another reported "communicator" with God. Many people believe they can communicate with God through prayer and meditation, including people of other faiths.
    4) While I myself am a pretty atheistic Jew [sounds like hypocrisy, I know, I've elaborated many times in the other threads - my perspective makes sense], I do believe that the vast majority of the "talk to God" stuff is complete bullshit. But what, then, could the "higher power" possibly be? An excuse to try to free yourself spiritually, to avoid being trapped by logic and rationality?

EDIT: I believe in "enlightenment" through friendship and community, rather than prayer and meditation through God.

I was not directing it to you. I was talking about every one else saying that there is no god, there is no proof, etc.

It's called a *debate* - now if you're not adding anything to it, GTFO. There are certain things called *facts* or *rational ideas* and there are certain things called *irrational ideas* -- read the stickies. I myself am very open-minded, but I haven't really seen any evidence that a divine power must truly exist. And a life guided by faith, irrationality, isn't really what I'm looking for.

The post starter asked a simple question and set up an easy poll. Don't give me that "GTFO" shit.

And sometimes the simplest of questions have the most complex of answers. And generally, if you go into a debate, and you're asked the question - the answer can usually be summed up in 2-3 words. It's justifying your beliefs that counts. Don't be retarded, and read the rules of SFA.

If everything has to start from something, where did God come from?

This is the "intelligent debate" section of Sythe.org.

Its so unlogical so I believe in it, but somewhere inside of me I kind of do think there's a god.

    I believe Muhammad claimed to.

If I may. No one cares what you believe, however, this thread was created for a reason, and I'm sure many debaters here are getting tired of people like you trying to put an end to the entire point of this forum with your little, "Why do you care", remarks.

Your question is irrelevant to your conclusion. Many authors write books, and simply because they had more time to waste back then, someone could have written a slightly longer book. Considering the mass number of fiction books, please think about your question before you try to ask it.

Who creates Presidents day and it suddenly just becomes popular? Who creates socks and it suddenly just becomes popular? Your question does not back up the existence of God.

All of Earth can't come out of no where? Earth didn't. Many, many rocks collided for tons of years, and the end result was Earth.

This was more like around 1400 years ago, but A for effort. The rest of your post is quite nice ;) Too lazy to go back and quote it, but +1 for you. Debunking arguments that are pro-God are FTW.

Why have previous threads like this not been stickied? How many days until this poll falls behind and someone else replaces it?

Should be stickied imo, this is one of the most (if not the most) interesting and discussed intellectual questions.

Well, there's a post just like this that is stickied; Sythe's thread: "How do you know you are right?" But anyways, it shouldn't really be a sticky...if this thread is actually a lively thread with many debaters, it won't get replaced. People will just direct others to this thread...I agree though, it might be my favorite SFA thread.

i guess we can say the same to you.

But i belive there is a higher power, what that power is, idk but i feel there is somthing.

In the bible i find too many mistakes to belive in it,

Like in Revolation's i belive it is, Moses dies... then in Psalm's it says Jesus Stood Before Moses On Mt. Erat

come on now, that was a time period of 1500 years... Moses was LONG gone... into dust by then...

so yeah i belive there is somthing, just idk what.

147 pages of people saying prove this, prove that.

God isnt something you can prove, nor is He something you can disprove. I'm tired of having friends say "What the hell? You believe in a white bearded guy floating the clouds? LOSER!" Too many people have a false view conditioned into their minds by their parents or television, or some other source of media spreading falicies about what God really is.

What I believe in is a God of faith. He exists as a conceptualized being, an idea that stimulates believe through the fact that he cannot be proven. God is not a being in the clouds; that is utter nonsense. He is an idea around which people with similar morals and ideals can rally; he is a force for good in a world where we have freedom to choose what is right and what is wrong.

God exists through faith; he cannot be proven. If he was proven, why would he even need to exist? Having faith does not mean agreeing with something proven; it means taking a step in the dark and believing in something without proof, something greater than you are. Differentiating between faith and fact is key is distinguishing what God really is.

I am not a fundamentalist; I do not take the Bible literally. It's teachings are from another age, and mean little in present context if they are not interpreted and analyzed for deeper meaning.

I do believe in God, something greater than any of us will ever be. I believe in the concept that like-minded individuals working together can help to make the world a better place. That is my God; the unity of humanity for good.

I voted Yes. I believe in God.

    Why do you believe that?

Well if you believe in a being without proof that the being exists, you mark yourself as irrational.
