Which Music Genre "Corrupts" Children the most?

I personally think Rap does.

 

I see alot of people shouting metal and rap as the genres that corrupt kids the most, but they don't take the time to explain why.
Back in ye ol' days, the corrupting genres where Rock 'n Roll and Disco.

Depends what you do with it. I've seen people that come "respectable" families listen to rap, and still get the highest marks in class.
I think people label rap as corruptive because some of the thugs that end up jail might of liked it.
If a normal 13 year old boy went and bought Eminem, chances are that boy wouldn't end up a scum bag because of that CD

 

People refer to metal as corruptible because it talks a lot about death. A lot of stereotypes is that Metal music represents Emo/Straight Edge Etc. Just one thing I've noticed throughout my neighborhood.

Why is it that rap corrupts, and not hard rock/metal?

 

First of all, wtf metal are you talking about? *most* good metal talks either about politics/corruption or about FIXING yourself from harm you've caused. Give me some examples. I'll shit on them.

So what "stereotypical" metal are you talking about? Because where I live, if you say "Metal" people probably think of different "metal" than what they think of when you say "metal." Traditional metal (maybe something like Slipknot?) is more about death as a concept/theme, not about killing yourself.

Stereotypes associated with SCREAMO is something entirely different. But screamo isn't even fucking metal.

I never said that stereotypical metal was screamo.

 

Who stereotypes metal as thrash metal or death metal? :O If you ask the kind of person who thinks metal supports self mutilation, I'm sure *most* would name Slipknot. That's garbage screamo [poserdeath] metal. If they were to name like Cannibal Corpse or IDK Anthrax/Megadeth, then fine, I'd respect their opinion. But they wouldn't. They'd name Slipknot. And btw, since when does Thrash metal support self-mutilation? :O The only genres that actually support harming yourself are probably Black Metal and Screamo.

 

You can't speak for the entire genre, and neither can I, but a number of songs in those genres DO speak of harming their self. Also, too many people stereotype metal as such.

Also, you've just proven my point for me. Whether black metal or death metal, it's still metal, and it still supports such themes.

 

Okay, but maybe 1% of the metal listeners listen to Black Metal, while like 95% of people who listen to rap listen to "gangsta rap" AKA what's on the radio. And most people don't stereotype metal as black metal. EVERYBODY stereotypes rap as, and I'll quote Lil Wayne who's the man haha, "run up in a nigga house and shoot his grandmother up" -- those are totally great morals, aren't they? And that's in a song (3 Peat) that plays on the radio quite often.

How often do you hear black metal on the radio? Or people talk about it? :O

No, I live in a place where metal isn't stereotyped by Black Metal. And no, I don't have any proof. But it's basically common sense. The majority of people who say they like rap like what's on the radio. And when was the last time you heard A Tribe Called Quest or other underground rap on the radio? Never. You hear like Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Luda, Snoop Dogg, TI, that gangsta rap shit. When was the last time you even talked to someone who likes black metal? Lol. On this thread I found on last.fm, in the Metal discussion section, only 1 person out of 130 replies said they like black metal.

 

Well then your logic depends on where the person lives. You can base your argument off of that, but you'll never get where you're trying to go.

It's no where near common sense? 1 percent? It's a bogus statistic.

I like rap, yet I never listen to the radio. Many of my friends like rap, yet they don't listen to the radio. I mean, if you want to base this argument on where people live, as opposed to the stereotype as a whole, we can.

The last time I talked to someone who liked black metal? A couple of hours ago, actually. Bad example.
