Is There a 'Correct' Path to Religion?

Before anyone types anything! This isn't debating the existence/non-existence of God!

Does anyone believe there's a "correct" path to religion? Should it be at your own pace, or parents showing them "the way." Or any other way.

I personally don't believe there's a specific path to religion, I believe all "paths" have pros and cons.

It should be your opinions and beliefs. Not just because your parents were raised that way.

You shouldn't have to follow religion based on other peoples experiences. It is all your choice and whichever path you take.

If theism was all 100% correct, it wouldn't matter if the path was trying to be set by parents will or not, if God wanted you, he would have you.

Agree with louis, to that extent.

If you do choose to be a theist, then the path that would be correct should be the one that 'you' have chosen to follow.

I was talking about the 'correct path' to religion. Not the path to one's beliefs of God's existence.

I believe that when parents push their children more into religion than the children would like, it ends up causing problems down the line

porman, you are correct, although i hate admitting it (maybe not), this site has presented me with good links and external proof that God is impossible, mainly because he claims all good, but the people who follow him are all bad... I should have posted in a dif thread but w/e

No offence to anyone religious out there, but religion is in my oppionion, a farce.

Seriously, religion is one of the most volitile substances in our history, accounting for a huge part of why people die, and why we took so long to get where we are now in terms of technology and sophistication.

Examples: The crusades, religious terrorism, superstition.

I think the path of religion is really a rather silly concept conceived by the bringing up of the young. It is more based on the psychological state of a person when they are introduced to religion.

    Example -

A desperate person in need for attention and love. A person who has no hope or money. A person who has been through pain and suffering. Will most likely be more susceptible to religion.

A person who is filthy rich. Has more friends than the president of the United States. A person who has nothing but fun and happiness in their lives. These are the kind of people who do not go looking for a path to religion.

The path to religion is what we make. Children that are highly rebellious to parents introducing them to religion will most likely become an atheist. Children who want nothing more than their parents love and gratitude will embrace religion more easily.

There is no real path to religion. Religion is based on one choice and once choice alone. Yes or No.

I do think that parents should bring there children up teaching them and instructing them in the way of the Lord, but it is completely your choice. I do not think the parents should force there kids into religion, but they should definitely instruct them as to how they should live there lives.

If a belief is forced on you, it isn't a belief.

No, because you aren't "born" into a religion, you are influenced into one.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by a "path" to religion. In my opinion, it is something you need to explore on your own, with minimal outside influence, including parental influence. Go and explore different religions, read about them, etc., and find out what's right for you.

I think most religions have a correct path, as long as you like it, have a good feeling towards it, you don't feel forced and have a calling for it, then yes, that is your correct way.

Religion should be based on your beliefs and understandings. I would sure hope that you don't have a religion because your parents are in it.
