How Sythe Could Put An End to 99.9% of Scams

That was my point, it was never made as a suggestion. Flamo was just having a discussion and posted in the discussions forum.

Not saying I agree, but that's not the point!

Firstly the people who are unfortunate enough to get scammed don't have due diligence (this comes with experience). I don't think it's the active trading Sythe members that is the root of the problem, it's the new/semi-new market users who are buying services or gold who need a bit more education on how to spot scammers.

Always look at peoples vouches and join dates, and just become someone is a donor doesn't mean they will not scam you..

Unfortunately most people end up learning the hard way, and it's always a very expensive mistake..

But even with a omm or mm, it's easy to recover any account.
I don't even try buying a account without a original email aswell.

 

I’m sure a lot of scams happen off-site so this would do very little to prevent that.

I actually gave this some thought when I came up with the idea. What I think is: if Sythe successfully designed a trading system around the concept of scam prevention, and users were to deliberately make the choice of trading through offsite platforms, those users should lose their right to Sythe's trader insurance. After this system is implemented, users should be encouraged to make almost every trade through Sythe and I think this would a good way to achieve that.

Please read the thread and its responses to avoid re-posting comments that have already been made.

 

Don’t you think that is all too complicated? Most contact is done outside of sythe, via discord or skype. Sythe is just a listing like craigslist.

 

Not at all. I would even go as far as to say that the cost of building this system might actually be outweighed by the number of scams it prevents. Of course, there's no calculating this without looking at the actual stats (sythe dispute archives might have them). As for the apps like discord/skype, I think they're objectively responsible for enabling the theft that Sythe impersonators are able to get away with. That's partly why a Sythe-owned chat app that automatically links to your Sythe profile is a necessity. My goal here is to simplify the process of trading for all players, both new and old.

And yes, Sythe is essentially craigslist with a forum + active moderation. But, I happen to think it would be better for everyone if it were more like an enhanced combination of Sythe/PlayerAuctions.
