I'd probablly just do desert treasure before 82 mage unless you just want to get 82 mage yourself.

you should get it to 80 ranged, and then 82 mage for ice blitz, then use blitz+d'bow spec, almost a 100% ko in low crater bh

Anyway I personally feel you should get your range up to get more often, make you more deadly =)
