Do you think immortality is something we will see in our lifetimes?

Do you think science will provide the answer to curing age, disease and let us live endless lives?

Do you think we will figure out consciousness, and have the ability to move our selves to a new 'skin', such as in Altered Carbon (on Netflix).

Outside of this, would you want to? Would you want to live 1000 years? Seeing humans spread across the universe and to see how far we can advance socially and technologically?

Maybe, you can never say straight up no because at the rate technology is evloving at. But overpopulation is already a big thing and if it were to be true it would be far beyond what the average person could afford. Being uploaded a cloud server of some sort like that episode in Black Mirror would combat this.

I wouldn't want to be immortal though - the character Wolverine depicts it extremely well why immortality is a curse. You could be trapped or stuck in some sort of loop and never end which is scary.

Yeah, remembering the scenes in the black museum episode really does make you think of how torturous it could be!

Still though, there would be some beauty in it. Seeing us evolve and grow, and potentially meeting other forms of life within our universe!

This type of immorality would hopefully be designed with an escape. An ability to still physically kill yourself if it was medical immortality or if on a computer or cloud, then an option to pause your consciousness or to end it totally!

 

Absolutely. In fact, you can see immoral people even today!

Really though, maybe. Aging has several components that damage the body until it dies. If we can identify all of them, and halt/reverse them, maybe.

 

The human already almost doubled their lifespan in the last 400-500years and with the current speed we evolve and technology evolve I believe that within 50year MAX. the lifespan will be 150-200 either due human evolution/medication/technology.
I do believe human lifespan can and will be expanded alot but I can't believe immortality is real due the fact that mother nature hasn't created us to live for ever, the human body is not capable of living indefinitly, even with the help of tech. / medicines, it will be impossible.

 

Don't forget that it's only average human lifespan has increased - mostly due to hugely reduced infant/childhood mortality. There still have been big increases, of course, but I agree with your second point. There's no evolutionary pressure for us to live forever, so no matter how much our technology increases, the best we can do is stave off the inevitable.[/QUOTE]

 

I would like to think once data storage can quite literally "reach" the point of carrying an individuals emotions, memories, and sense of surroundings and putting that personal ID card in a robotic "sleeve" (yeah, Altered Carbon) which doesn't seem too outlandish once put into perspective, at that point we will see immortality in humans. But we already live amongst immortal creatures so it may be much more simple than some sci-fi Netflix series and very much so within our reach.

If we can mimic the behaviors and genetics of a jelly fish that, quite frankly is in every sense of the word "immortal" due to it being able to literally reverse its body to a younger self thus being able to live forever, we will have grasped a concept that seems completely ridiculous and impossible.
