Windows Server 2008 Free for Students!

This is half a thousand dollar software people, don't pass this up!

Microsoft has updated their "DreamSpark" offerings. If you don't know, DreamSpark is Microsoft's area for giving free software to students. Previously, DreamSpark offered Windows Server 2003 for free. However, they have recently updated that to offer Windows Server 2008.

Server 2008 is slightly newer than Vista and would be acceptable as a server (obviously) or as a lighter weight gaming/ desktop platform than Vista. By default, a lot of the bloat that was in Vista is disabled by default in Server 2008. However, if you want, Server 2008 can basically be transformed into full featured Vista. So if want to install legit Windows on another machine, give this a look.

All you have to do is confirm you're a student, DreamSpark also offers other free software like Visual Studio 2008 Professional and SQL Server 2008.

This is only open to those students that can prove that they actually belong to a small select number of schools. I also can't seem to grasp why the website looks like complete shit when the page was designed by Microsoft developers.

You don't need to be in a select amount of schools, you don't need to be in college. Find the link where it tells you that you have another option if your school is not listed. Sign up, and get verified. Just scan your School ID and give it to them. My school isn't listed there but I scanned my picture with school Name and got it.

It's actually thousand dollar software, and legit. Take advantage of it while you can. May be useful when you eventually grow a brain

I'm at the point where I have to verify my school, I can send in a photo of my ASB card.. don't really want to though..

 

Why would a college student need a server OS?

 

I can vouch, My college ID didn't have the year provided, so I scanned my Drivers License with school ID, that way they know my birthday and age, and my college ID, which makes sense to be in college for my age.

Why not? There are many young entrepreneurs working with servers, even before they're in college. The OS is thousand dollar software and should be taken advantage of! You can also use Windows Server 2008 as a user friendly desktop operating system, if you don't have XP/Vista nor want to switch to linux.
