None of us have said you believe in ghosts and whatnot. I'm sure if you said you did, the posts in this thread would actually contain something about supernatural entities such as ghosts.

How has science become like a religion? Science is the reason you can live so comfortably. I think you don't realize just how much science helps YOU out. Science is the reason your computer exists. Science is the reason your car moves. Science is the reason planes fly. Science is the reason you have a goddamned lightbulb in your ceiling, or a cell-phone in your pocket. If you dismiss science, dismiss all of these benefits first.

I'm not trying to "convert" people. I'm trying to ask people why they believe in a God, to make sure that they know just why they believe. Commonly, theists don't know why, and that is when the beginnings of Atheism or Agnosticism take hold. I'm open to proof of a God which may change my non-belief in to a belief, but I know within reasonable doubt that there is no empirical evidence to provide.

That being said, to have an understanding of something is the opposite of faith. It is a logical, rational, conclusive fact in which you do not BELIEVE it to be correct, but you KNOW it to be correct.

No one can say they KNOW God is correct, but they can say they believe in God, or they have faith in God and in the church, etc. It is possible to also say that you believe in science, however, this takes on a different meaning when understanding facts and belief intertwine. The new meaning would be that you trust in the laws of which you live by.

Firstly, when you die, you don't just die and poof you're gone. Newton's Law of Energy contains a line which says "Energy can neither be created nor destroyed, merely lost or transferred." Therefore, when you "die" your energy (brain waves, electrical impulses, etc) does not cease to exist, that is unlawful and cannot happen based on PROVEN FACT.

I am not going to be so illogical to say that it just goes to a magical place ran by a fucked up zombie, but I am going to tell you that the energy the runs your entire system, and the electrical current which keeps you alive does not simply stop. It is lost/transferred, so it IS somewhere, for it can't be nowhere.

Furthermore, to you, Classical, I understand what you are saying, and I am telling you that you are wrong. I do not have an opinion that you are wrong, and that I am right, I am telling you that based on the 3rd dimension in which you live, which we have all come to call reality, you are incorrect.

You exist in a 3rd dimension (as far as science can prove *name*), and therefore your reality is the same as everyone else's.

However, reality is also how you perceive it. The state of which you exist will not change, but how you see that of which you exist within can be altered at any time. This is called quantum physics, and is very real, and logical.

Also, scientists and atheists do not simply say "This seems to be real, so lets make it a law." No, what happens is a hypothesis is formed in several scientific journals, controlled experiments are performed to test the hypothesis, if the hypothesis passes every test (100%) (Complete) (Absolute opposite of 0% and failure) then it may pass into a theory after several other scientists perform the same tests and receive (100%) (Complete) (Absolute opposite of 0% and failure) the same results. After a theory has been accepted and proven throughout the universe, it becomes a law.

So, why is gravity not a law? Because of a little thing called dark matter, and blackholes. Scientists can only experiment so far, so the fact that gravity is NOT considered a law disproves your entire hypothesis that science is in fact a religion. They cannot prove that gravity is DEFINITELY gravity and that it is omniscient, therefore it is still the theory of gravity.

classical, science simply is not a religion. It's not even meant to be a religion. It's got nothing to do with the realm of theism. You seem to be misunderstanding the meaning of the very word.

Now, science is an array of accepted truths that are based on empirical evidence derived from numerous tests. Religion is a person's perception of the world, not through any empirical proof, like science, and it is designed to guide people and give them a sense of morals through blatant belief. No religious story can be proven empirically to be true, but they are accepted because they shed a new light on life for many people.

But what you are saying is ridiculous. You are saying that science was invented and is solely used for disproving religion. Science is a way of understanding how things work in the universe through systematic research and use of accepted and tested facts. Science HELPS people. There would be no science if it didn't. Science provokes innovation that helps improve our society. Scientists were the ones who manufactured penicillin, theists (religious folk) were the ones who (consistently inconsequentially) prayed to live through their sickness.
