    The Existence of God

We don't, that's why I'm an atheist. I don't really see why catholics and christians love God so much. This is a conversation I just made up, usually the common conversation between an atheist and a christian/catholic.
Jacob: God loves us so much, he created the universe, he created the human body, and he created the human species.
Me: Really? Then why can't any of us do that? Do you have proof that he created us?
Jacob: Our proof is in his love.
Me: What love? Do you know that he loves us?
Jacob: Yes, I can feel it.
Me: Do you know why he loves us?
Jacob: Yes, because we all strive to go to Heaven, and we follow him.
Me: What if we don't follow him?
Jacob: He will send non-believers to Hell.
Me: And why does he do that if he loves all of us?
Jacob: Because he wants us to learn to accept his love.
Me: So... He sends us to Hell to learn?
    Jacob: Yes.
Me: But Hell is punishment, right?
    Jacob: Yes.
Me: So we get punished because we don't love someone who we have no proof of that exists at all?
Jacob: I told you, our proof is in his love.
Me: (At this point, I usually walk away and say "whatever")

Did you tell him that love is made up of the chemicals aforementioned by Shreddderbeam? ^_^

God has no physical evidence. God has absolutely no evidence of existence to be exact. As a physical and logical being, I accept that it is absurd to believe in such an entity.

Honestly, religion is the most deadly thing there is to date.

    The Existence of God

I don't see the point Atheists fighting against a Catholic. Honestly, it seems like they're fighting for something, the way they're fighting, they're fighting like a christian. Fighting against a Catholic just to convert them is no point. Because 1. You have nothing somebody to convert to religiously, 2. there is no point converting them if you don't have a belief, and 3. what's wrong with believing in God? It's better to be safe then sorry. Science does overrule religion any day, which I will admit. But something that has been passed on for thousands of years dosen't add up. They found a tomb where they say Jesus was in, there's been miracles that happened, I don't see how it's not believable. It's like Tokyo blowing up by some cloverfield. There's no conspiracy you can make out of that, nothing you can't say it's true, because Tokyo is up in flames. JFK, it's like saying his wife shot him. Feel free to debate or argue with me. I'm never going to be converted. I love hearing your atheist opinions though.

This is really adding to my post count. Our atheist opinions aren't fun, they are serious. I don't see why people don't understand. It's simple...

What an arrogant and ignorant person.

We're trying to convince believers because of a couple of reasons:
    1) The entire point of a debate is to convince people
    2) Religious people are irrational and commonly can't explain why they believe. It's fun to play with their intelligence.

How are we fighting? I for one find this topic quite amusing. Converting people is what this debate is about, to be honest. Why is there no point converting somebody to a non-belief? What is wrong with making them realise truths about what religions actually are?

I find believing in God irrational, as there is no proof. History dictates that religion is the biggest human killer ever. What about believing in a God is safe? Something that has been passed on for over thousands of years is far more prone to be wrong, for your information. The original story, be it true or false, will have been distorted so much that the original story wouldn't even be there any more.

To the "evidence" you posted, that is not valid. A tomb could be anyone's tomb, but there is no DNA evidence is there? I'd like to see proof of these "miracles", too.

Face it kid, there are some things people will never know. There are some things people shouldn't know. There are also some things it is better not to believe in for the sake of rationality. We will never know the origin of the universe (if there was one).

Ugh, my grammar has been horrid today =/

    The Existence of God

We will someday know the origin of the universe, definitely it was not created my God. This topic is amusing, and M5, I respect your opinion, but I think you shouldn't believe in something if you don't have any proof of it. Swan, he was talking about actual Jesus' tomb. Jesus did once live, we have logical evidence of that, it is just that he did not die to save us from our sins, or do anything that catholics and christians say he died for. If he died, why doesn't he come back and show himself to some people for once?

Why doesn't he create a cure for cancer? Why doesn't he help us in explaining the unexplainable, such as, why catholics and christians believe in him. Why doesn't he just figure out what I'm saying when I say etc. at the end of this sentence, etc.? One lose-lose situation for him is, "Let God Almighty create a stone in which he cannot lift.". If he cannot pick up the stone, he is not almighty, if he cannot make the stone, he is not almighty, if he figures out that this is impossible for him to win and creates another question, then he will understand us. Why do you believe in him M5?

Completely true. There is logical evidence of him. That's when religion started to take off. There's proof Jesus was born 7 A.D. They say the bible started to get written 70.A.D. So only like 20-30 years after he died. Which means people couldn't have made false statements, there's still thousands that are still alive that saw him. A lot see him as a prophet but not a savior. Some people believe in him but no God. I was raised a Catholic so it's just how I am. I just don't understand in my opinion how a huge bible would be written, miracles have happened, 90 seconds in heaven being one of them, bleeding Mary, Pope John Paul you could see his body in the fire at the Vatican. There's no theoretical proof which I understand. I love science. I know all the laws of physics and how they break. I love studying cells and how organisms work. Any atheists think that "God" made the world in 7 seven days, if he did make it at all that is, he made the universe first which is 5 billion years old. he made earth, then after that mankind was made and we are now 40k years old. That's been proved by scientists, how old is the universe. Where did the universe come from might I ask? How were human beings created? Why is it that John the Baptist baptized people before Jesus was born meaning he already knew about the coming of the messiah. There's technically no proof of God, yet there is Jesus, causing many beliefs. It says he stopped peforming physical miracles because we have the bible to live off. I'm friends with a ton of atheists, so don't get me wrong. I really only wish he could perform a huge miracle that would make everyone believe but that won't happen. You don't have to believe in God, you have a choice. Ofcourse since most of the population of sythe is Atheist so I'll be outruled but I'm just saying what I think. I'm not being arrogant or ignorant at all. I'm debating.

Edit: The reason he dosen't come back is they say there is a Last Judgement which he takes everyone to heaven or stay on earth. There's many beliefs so I stay out of that. There's no telling if it's real.

We debate this topic because it's fun.

There are infinite potential Gods, thus, believing "just to be safe", as Pascal's Wager proposes, fails.

How do they know it was the tomb of Jesus? What miracles were performed that you have independently verified?

You're declaring, by fiat, that you never will be converted? Then you admit to being non-empiricist, which effectively makes you irrational.

    Some 40 years after, actually.

On the contrary, there's no historical data that even suggests that a Jewish carpenter named Jesus Christ existed in that specific area during that specific era. It seems unlikely to me that a man who traveled from town to town, curing the sick and healing the blind never made it to the history books. People have entered the history books for far less deeds.

The Bible doesn't actually state that Earth is 6,000 years old. It only states that Adam and Eve lived in the Garden of Eden 6,000 years ago. People often assume that they were kicked out by the ever-so-hospitable God right away, even though the Bible doesn't say that. For all we know, Adam and Eve could've lived in the Garden of Eden for 4.5 billion years, fucking like rabbits and eating everything but the forbidden fruit of knowledge.

    The Existence of God

To finish what I started earlier...

Generally, the birth of Jesus is put down to around 2-5 B.C. (heh) - although I have yet to see any hard historical evidence of any birth dates.

Well hang on, some 35 years later, many of the older people would have died, given the rather low life expectency.

Well here's the thing - the Roman Catholic Church is not the only one to claim divinity. Read through some ancient mythologies - they all have divine intervention, thousands of man-hours of accumulated effort, miracles, etc. You dismiss them as false - why not the Bible?

God exists as an uncaused entity, apparently. Why can the universe not be an uncaused identity?

    Evolution.

Jesus and John were born around the same time, if you believe what the Bible says.

What a guy - "here, have a book filled with stories, and base your worldview on that".

Nothing has ever been proven to be immortal.

God is supposedly, In the religion I was bought into without choice, someone who watches over us an protects us.
It cannot be proven as everyday people die and prove there not immortal, the day somebody is declared to be 1000000 years old and the average age is 80-100 I will still not believe immortality exists and this is mean't to be gods most powerful asset.
    God does not exist.

Well said, Monkey. I was also raised into catholicism without choice. When we were being educated on God, our teacher also said that God was immortal, and watched over us, and protected us. If he loves us so much, then why send us to Hell? Seriously, catholics and christians don't think when it comes to religion.
