^Yes I do realise I spelt the title wrong :Z

I'll fill you in on what happened.

We had internet, all was fine. But one day, my dad discovered he could get 20mb broadband for a tiny bit more in cost then what we were paying for the previous one ( which was much slower )

Anyway, the tech guy came, installed the internet, yeah s'all good.

But I noticed that the netgear router that came ( the exact same model we had before ) is only giving me 1.0-5.5mpbs = wtf?

The older internet ( which was lower then 20mb broadband ) was giving me up to 54.0 mpbs. The newer internet ( which is 20mb broadband ) is giving me 1.0-5.5mpbs ( THE SAME NETGEAR MODEL, WITH 20 MB BROADBAND = SHOULD BE MUCH BETTER RIGHT? )

    Halp plz :(

Call the internet company and have them send a tech over.

    Bad signal?
Are any other routers in the local area using the same channel as yours? If so, change it.

@ hm0ng = Isn't there anything I can do without the hassle of getting someone over here?

@ Verts = Very little internet usage where I live ( wouldn't be surprised if I was the only one buying internet atm )

How did you compare the two speed wise? Some online speed tests? DO you still have the old router? Try swapping them. You could also try to reset your router and restart your computer.

( Sorry lost connection there :( ) I compared the speed by....well I had great speed playing counterstrike, and ever since I got this new internet I can't play any server on counterstrike at all.

I'll try the switching thing around, since they both are the same model.

I'm pretty ticked off since I have a £100 graphics card coming, and it would be such a shame if I couldn't use it.

the 54.0 mbps is only the transfer speed of your WLAN, not the actual internet speed. Also, are you getting 1-5.5 megaBIT or megaBYTE? huge difference there, but yea, still doesn't explain the fluctuations. I'd say give your ISP a call.

    Bit.

I'm getting 11.0mbps quite frequently though, I'm still not content with that though.

Try moving your computer and router closer together, and see if it improves. If it does then you probably need to get a new router - they're pretty cheap. You don't need a 54mbps signal though.
