Why is Suicide illegal?

In my opinion it should be aloud for cancer patients etc, That are only going to suffer for years and years and its untreatable. But if its a disease or a problem that can be fixed then it should be ilegal, This is a hard one. And even if they made it legal the churches would kick up such a fuss it wouldnt be worth it .

 

Well, i found a quote on wikipedia "As a common law crime, suicide can bar recovery for the family of the suicidal person in a lawsuit unless the suicidal person can be proven to have been "of unsound mind." That is, the suicide must be proven to have been an involuntary, not voluntary, act of the victim in order for the family to be awarded money damages by the court"

That is one reason why it is a felony to commit suicide.

And also in my opinion people who take up the question of suicide need to be mentally treated. If you think about it, Why would people Suicide. Money problems? Divorce? Peer pressure? Being Broke?. And many more, All these question it.

But truelly if treated by time they wouldn't want to suicide after being treated.
A suicide patient is morally like a teenagers mind. Doing without Thinking.

A newly person who just Got to drive will not notice the future ahead. he would just think how cool he is that his driving. he wouldnt think of the consequences ahead of him.
As for the suicide patient he wouldnt think ahead of him, saying to himself NO I CANT FIX THIS. they usually think of the present, "look at me im broke no money, life is harsh"

Well that is in my opinion why it is illegal and should stay illegal. Morally based on the mind of the patient

I was thinking the same thing. It makes no sense. Can you go to jail for suicide? If so, I can imagine a man trying to commit suicide and the cops telling him to come down so they can arrest him...If he's already sad or unstable enough to take his own life, which goes against our primal survival instincts, and he's threatened with his life becomming even more ruined with jail time? That's like encouraging someone to jump. I can also imagine the police handcuffing and reading the rights to someone after he took his life--breaking the law...

BTW, I have no clue what the punishment for that law is. So don't get all over me if I'm wrong about anything.

+1 Agreed. If you have mental problems, and if they wan't to commit suicide they should go to a certain place were they are set to sleep not to jump off a building or hold a gun to there head.

 

The government are thinking of the living people it will effect after you're gone.

There are good reasons why it's illegal.

Does it being illegal really matter that much? The person is most likely committing suicide because of their family and the people around them in the first place, so I doubt making them grieve will affect that person when their gone. And if they're dead then the law can't really affect them can it?

Okay, it's ETHICALLY wrong, however by nature, the TRUE form of things, it's completely acceptable.

Nature, for some part, consist of animals killing animals, plants being superior to other plants, and such. This is killing. This is nature. Life = Nature. Nature = natural, and it is natural to have life.

Without nature, life would not be taken away, simply because it would not be here. To take away life is nature, and IN nature, it is completely acceptable.

Suicides aren't a part of accepted principles. Suicide is, if anything, the opposite, considering the title of this very thread. They are either this, or that. They are not this (First sentence), so they are that.

 

What principles? Accepted by whom, and according to what standards?

 

I believe suicide is illegal because their may be someone who aided in the person committing suicide. They may have demoralized the person in some way which caused them to kill themselves; and if stated in a Suicide Letter, then the person that caused their death may go to jail.

I have no idea about this topic, but I'd like to have this input.

 

Because if u do.. it might lead someone else to do it.. causing murder and unessary death

Those that are set by the authorities who obviously made suicide illegal. Accepted by all whom do not think otherwise. According to the standards of today's society, whatever he/she in civilization may consider that to be.

China should establish more land, not increase the amounts of suicide.
