I don't expect you nor anyone else to believe, as I know it's true. I'm also 100% confident you don't expect me to post proof of personal details to a stranger (you)?

Of course not, because even if you edited out personal details, it's very easy to fake a text conversation. I thought literally everybody knew this.

It's 100% irrelevant what you expect people to believe, but if you post in a debate thread, you surely can't be surprised that people laugh at "I saw a text conversation once". I mean, why even bring it up? Do you mean to say that you thought that people would give any weight whatsoever?

It wasn't put up for debate. I put it out there because there are actual cases where the the one being charged is innocent.

It wasn't put up for debate, but you posted it in a debate forum?

I'm sure there are cases where innocents are being charged, can you add to the actual debate on that?

Guilty doesn't necessarily mean guilty. Same goes for innocent as the judicial system isn't perfect.

I can see why you'd question the legitimacy though. I guess you're the Lady Gaga in this case.

Fair enough, but a jury reviewed the evidence, and sentenced him. Do you know what evidence they sentenced him on?

No idea. I'll hold onto my original post where I said if found guilty, you should face the consequences. Even if it's an unfortunate case, the larger sample would move towards fairer results.

The case itself, I would've found it weird if it wasn't for personal experience with the system. Again, no proof if you're worried about that unless you directly call the police/lawyers involved. The prosecutor tried to flip info I attested to make it seem like I was involved. Long story short, I said I didn't know the guy (they showed me a picture) and she said I knew him in court. Don't know why she said that since I had the opposite on record. Also, cctv footage, messages, geolocation, basically went through my mobile without finding evidence of knowing him. Even the judge dismissed her claims. I guess it's all a game in the end.

Sexual harassment/assault is a pretty difficult topic. Obviously it's a horrible thing when it happens, but due to the difficulty in proving it, accusers are basically given the upper hand. Entire lives can be ruined by a simple false accusation (and I've seen it happen). I think the system is broken, mainly due to false accusations being largely unpunished - at the very minimum, those found to be falsely accusing someone of it should serve DOUBLE the time/sentence and should have to make a public apology. They ruined that persons life. Serve the sentence.

On a side note, I think it's an interesting double standard between women and men. I've been harassed, groped, bitten, and drugged by women at bars and parties - There is next to no way for a man to get help, even just talk about these events in the same light as if it was a woman, without being ridiculed or shunned by his peers.

Accusers generally aren't given the upper hand unless the case gains media attention.

That said, I have reservations about giving false accusers such harsh punishments - not that I have anything against punishing false accusers, but it's possible that, given how few false accusers there actually are, legitimate accusers with little evidence might be convicted.

Same. It's an incredibly shitty double standard. If the aggressor is accused, and there's the same level of evidence against the aggressor, they should receive the same consequences, regardless of their gender.

Since it seems like the only ones that are caught making the false accusations are the ones that admit to it themselves, its not likely that anyone would be unfairly punished.

Are you familiar with the concept of a "false confession"? Here's a link to give you a jumping off point: False confession - Wikipedia

If you are making a company look bad regardless of if the allegations are true or not they will want to just be rid of you, that's just business unfortunately.

Also I'd like to point out how bad / incorrect it sounds to refer to sexual assault as a "mistake".

By that argument, no one should be held liable for their actions or admissions of guilt then, correct? Because it could either be a false confession or a false accusation (confirmed by a false confession by the accuser)

    Let's not forget:

Brian Banks (American football) - Wikipedia
26 Years Later, Justice for Men Imprisoned for a Bogus Rape
Man Falsely Accused Of Sexual Assault Awarded $1.8 Million In Damages

Just a few of the men who have been exonerated in the justice system of rape and sexual assault - These men had their lives, reputations, and careers destroyed by false accusations.

I wouldn't say that confessions are entirely worthless, only that they should be taken with (several) grains of salt. Confessions are not as iron-clad as the general public takes them to be.

I don't think I've ever said that false accusations never occur.
