Who can figure out this riddle?!?

That couldn't be right because that would be assuming he would give a defining answer. he could just as easily say that door or to the left or to the right etc. and then you wouldn't know if he was telling the truth or not. because you wouldn't know if it was the liar or not in the first place.

And assuming that the truth telling guard knew the other was a liar, the liar would know about the truth telling one, which would create a predicament because the liar could just as easily tell you the right door so you would use the wrong one.

This is in fact a trick question, there is not enough information to confirm one way or another.

Who can figure out this riddle?!?

One guard is a liar. One tells the truth. Here are both possible scenarios:

    Scenario one:

You ask a guard (the liar, although you do not know) "What would the other guard say if I asked him which way the parole office is?". Now, the liar knows that the truth-telling guard would say "It is on the left", so he lies, and says "It is on the right". You do the opposite of what he says, and take the door on the left - to safety.

    Scenario two:
You ask a guard (the truth-teller, although you do not know) "What would the other guard say if I asked him which way the parole office is?". Now, the truth-teller knows that the lying guard would say "It is on the right", so he tells the truth, and says "It is on the right". You do the opposite of what he says, and take the door on the left - to safety.

When do I get my prize, Wilfred?

Thats still asuming things that aren't said, it doesn't state that the guards know each other (that one tells the truth and one lies)

But if they just didn't add that you would be correct but I think this was a trick question implamented for people to think and argue with one another like we are... I may be wrong though.

Ask the guard "Is this the door to the gas chamber?" If he says yes, then go through the other door. If he says no go through that door. Prize pl0x.

Who can figure out this riddle?!?

Ask for a map of the place, look at the map, and then go out of the door that frees you.

Who can figure out this riddle?!?

Yes, but your way, is suggesting that you know which person is which, you have a 50% chance of living and dying. I think the answer is a 100% sure answer.

+ I still belive it is a trick question.

Who can figure out this riddle?!?

Well, prison guards are racist. Ask if you were black would you hate me? One would say yes, the other no, the truthful one would say yes. the liar, no.

EDIT: Realized thats a waste of a question, since you still dont know which door to choose. Heres another suggestion. Say this. May you please walk me out to my parol officer? If they lie, or tell the truth, they wont want to die.

Who can figure out this riddle?!?

Re-read it, if his assumptions are correct it is 100% fail safe. but it doesn't state that the assumptions he made are facts which is why I also believe it's a trick question.

Who can figure out this riddle?!?

Ok, I just read it agin, and now I see what he is saying, but they dont give anymore information the situation, so you can't assume that they both know that the other is a complete liar or is a complete truth-teller.

It's a bad questions/trick question if it is not intended to be a trick question.

Edit: I just re-read it, and theres still a 50/50 chance you will ask the wrong gaurd the question.

Liar paradox works better without a human interval.

Actually, hang on. The problem stated that one guard will always tell the truth. There was no "if he knows it" qualifier. Therefore, he's all-knowing, as must the liar be.

When do I get my prize?

Lmao, well still it was a bad riddle if that.

It needed more details in it, and I would have assumed that they knew that each other lied, but it didn't say that, and most riddles, you rely on what is said, not what is unsaid.

Telling the truth 100% of the time doesn't mean he's all knowing. It could mean if someone asked him a random question, he could answer it saying "I do not know the answer to that question" and then you have to pick which door is which b/c you just wasted your question on an assumption. And that is still "Telling the truth".

No, the riddle stated that one guard ALWAYS tells the truth, and the other ALWAYS lies. Clearly, they must both be all-knowing.
