Who can figure out this riddle?!?

Try to figure out this riddle:

A prisoner is given a chance to be set free or to be executed immediately. To his left is a door to the parole office where he will find freedom and to his right is a door to the gas chamber. there is a guard in front of each door. One always tells the truth whereas the other always lies. The prisoner can ask only one question. What should he do to find his freedom?

NOTE: The prisoner does NOT know which door is which.

The prisoner does NOT know that the freedom is to the left door and that the gas chamber is to the right. It only states that for us to know.

 

He should ask one of the guards "What would the other guard say if I asked him which way to go?", and do the opposite of whatever he says.

 

well im obviously deciding what he should do. if i can pick what question for him to ask why can i not pick which direction to point him in?

 

and why is that?

 

If he askes the one telling the truth then he would say, "Go through my door"
If you follow that you will die so you have to do the opposite.

If he asks the one lying he will also say to go through his door seeing as the truthful guard would never say that.

 

Well work it out:

No matter who you ask, you shall receive a lie. If you ask the truth-teller, he will honestly tell you what the liar would say. The liar would tell you the opposite of how to get to safety, so you would do the opposite. If you ask the liar, he would lie about what the truth-teller would honestly say.

 

uhh can he start asking a question like "are you attracted to me.." then all of a sudden punch him in the face quickly check if its the right door and if its not go to the other guy and do the same thing. is that allowed?

 

You cannot successfully answer this question because there is not enough information. It doesn't matter if one tells the truth and the other does not. It does not state that they both even know which is which.

You can only ask one question. not one question each. (If I am understanding this correctly)

An if they both do know the answer, are you aloud to ask a double question?

If so the question would be "what is my name(or anything else to find out the truth or liar), and what is the correct door"

 

He should ask the question out loud so that both guards answer him then push both of the guards through the doors and see which room is which, duh.

But honestly, I think Shredderbeam has already given the most logical answer.

 

Ask how you can have a 100% chance of surviving for the next 5 minutes. The truth teller will tell you to wait 5 minutes before making the decision(because he knows if he says a door, there would be a 50% chance of you dying), the lair will tell you to go through the wrong door.

 

The truthful person could just as easily tell you the safe door aswell.

 

But if he gave the right door, it would be a 50% chance of dying and he would be lying to you saying it is 100% safe.

Perhaps the prisoner doesn't deserve his feedom.. maybe he was a prisoner in the first place for scamming people out of steam accounts... does one deserve freedom....especially if they feel no remorse for what they did?

I'm still waiting for my payment from you... are you going to continue to ignore me and hope I go away? Look dude, when you lie, cheat and steal... you will eventually suffer for the wrong you do, don't ever forget that. I truly feel sorry for you if you don't feel the slightest guilt for what you've done.

For those reading this thread, wilfred scammed me out of my 8 digit steam account, it was only $15, but still... it's the principle of the matter, it's not about the money... it's about his immoral nature that bothers me...as if he didn't know right from wrong, and unless he's taught a lesson, he'll continue to scam, and I definantly wasn't his first attempt either.
