    Laptop Trouble

Ok there is a lot to say for this laptop is causing me some trouble. First off, I have a 17" HpDv9500.

One of the problems I am having is when I close the lid of the laptop (I changed the setting to do nothing) it will turn off after awhile. Usually when I am not by it. I tested this theory out when I went to school but instead I left the laptop open, same thing. When I am using the laptop I have never ever had this problem. I try to run an auto on it because I just don't have time to play runescape anymore and it gets quite annoying when you come back and your laptops off and it takes vista awhile to turn on.

The second problem in the laptop is getting so hot it has started to burn my leg. This is a very seriously problem and I am wondering if anyone else is having this problem. Now, my concern is if I can get a full refund even though the warranty is probably outdated. Or at least switch out the laptop.

I haven't had anyother problem with the laptop except for the webcam in which I have fixed myself by switching the driver to an acer crystal eye cam.

If anyone could tell me how I could fix this problem that would be nice. If not I might just pick my phone up at yell at the workers at hp or even better yet try to sue. The back where the vent is can get so hot it will burn on touch.

Well yes, I know that it is overheating. I just want to know if there is a way to fix it and why.

My laptop over heats slightly and burns my leg a little. And have you kept the laptop plugged in while you leave it running? Or maybe its overheating..

I definatly know that it is overheating but I don't know the cause. I keep it in a very cool room and the vent isn't covered. I tried plugged in and un-plugged. I also tried the three different power settings on my laptop.

The two issues are linked actually.

Sometimes your CPU fan will become clogged with dust. Try and clean out the vents that you can see from the outside, and elevate your notebook.

Sometimes when you put a laptop on a bed, or something similar, the heat cannot escape from under the laptop, causing it to quickly overheat. The fan itself could also be broken. And when laptops overheat, they turn off automatically.

I found this nifty flowchart that may help you.

Thanks Daily. I'll try having a high powerd fan blowing on the vent and see what happens tonight.

well overheating could be caused by not having a good enough fan in your laptop, try going to an it shop and getting a higher powered fan put in.
