How To Claim and Cancel in PayPal *Updated*

This guide was already written by Dingo212 which can be found here: http://www.sythe.org/showthread.php?t=149307. However, Dingo212's guide was outdated to the fact that PayPal's layout has changed, therefore I hope this is Stickied so that many people can learn it.

    Introduction:
To start off, Claim and Cancel is a process done in PayPal to prevent Charge Backs. The main reason I write this guide is because many people are unaware how to do this as it is a complicated process, however once learned, it becomes very easy.

    Please note:

There is two kinds of funding methods to PayPal:

    1. Funded by Bank/Other PayPal accounts/any other method.
    2. Funded by a Credit Card

Now If the person funded his/her PayPal with the first method, then sends you cash AND then Claim & Cancels, then the cash is irreversible; no matter what, therefore, you are safe!

However, if the person funded his PayPal with a CC (Credit Card) then it can be reversed, regardless of the customer claim and canceling it.

    Guide to Claiming and Canceling.

    1) We start off in the Main PayPal Menu. To begin the Claim and Cancel Process, we must first Claim that there is a problem or also known as "Disputing". In order to do this, you click the "Resolution Center" button as shown below.

    2) You will then be brought to the Resolution Center Menu. This is where we officially begin the process. To start, you need to click the "Dispute a Transaction" button as shown below.

    3) Once you have clicked the "Dispute a Transaction", you must explain to PayPal the type of Dispute are you informing about. You will be selecting "Item Dispute", then click "Continue".

    4) You then are brought to the page shown below. In order for PayPal to know what transaction you are Disputing about, you must tell them the Transaction ID which can be done by clicking the "Find Transaction ID" button.

    5) You are then prompted with a Pop up with all the Payments you have sent. You then click the Transaction ID that you are disputing about. Once you click your Transaction ID, the pop up will disappear and your Transaction ID spot will be automatically filled. You then click "Continue".

    6) After you clicked Continue, you will be taken to the screen seen below and then you select the "I did not receive the item option" as shown below.

    7) You will then have to explain to PayPal your problem with the transaction. Fill out the blank box as shown below and put the Category as "Virtual Goods" and then click "Continue".

    8) You then will be shown a confirmation screen to show that you have Officially claimed your Transaction. It will look like below and in order to Cancel your claim, you will click the "Resolution Center" button.

    9) You are then brought to the Resolution Center Main Menu. To continue from here, you will see your transaction is the list of Disputes and you then click "View".

    10) You will then be brought to this screen as shown below. You can go to the Canceling Confirmation page by clicking the "Close This Dispute" Button as shown below.

    11) Once you are brought to the Confirmation page, you do NOT need to write in the white box. You may just click the "Close Dispute" button right away.

You now have Officially "Claimed and Canceled"!

If it is Bank Funded, yes. If it is CC, they can still call the CC company and charge back, regardless whether you claimed or canceled.

Wow, are you sure? Like if they try to do some kind of dispute anyway, can Paypal hold my money?

PayPal holds your money when they dispute. It is when they cancel that the money cannot be taken back UNLESS they funded the money with a Credit Card.

To confirm that they claimed and canceled, in your Email, you should get the following two emails:

They can, but it is much harder to win that dispute.

Could you do like a double claim and cancel where you claim and cancel using Item Dispute and then Unauthorized Transaction?

If they have CC, they can ALWAYS charge back no matter what they claimed and canceled, however, if you use Bank Funded, it is EXTREMELY hard to charge back, however it is not impossible.
