How do you feel about AI's being created?

I'm not sure what you mean by "they serve no purpose". Can you expand upon that a little bit?

It's like we can solve all our problems and end the world at the same time

 

We can definitely do both with the technology we have on hand. But is there a reason you think it might go either way?

i think it's super weird and creepy, but inevitable now.

 

I've found the talks that Gates and Musk have done on the topic to be quite interesting - Major problems arise from low-skill (and even high skill) jobs being eliminated, and a universal income is the most discussed idea I've seen to counter this.

If you find those interesting I'd recommend looking into Steven Pinker & Sam Harris as well. There's a plethora of content on the subject that they've gone over and Sam tends to have a way of putting thing into a unique and very clearly perspective.

As far as the topic of this thread is concerned, I think this is truly the most important thing we should be focusing on at the moment. It was said earlier in the thread that we currently have the technology to end the world in the blink of an eye -- but, conversely(?), that same technology also has the potential to exponentially increase the timeline and quality of life of the entire human race. The big issue is being very, very, exceedingly cautious with our implementation of it. Machine learning and neural networking are reaching incredible new heights every day (like this, or even this) and it's a wonder we haven't unleashed a super intelligent Strong AI (very different than super intelligent Weak or "Narrow" AI, which we already have) that decided to overthrow the world governments and reign as super robo-overlord.

The scariest part is not that we're technologically far away from that point. We're not. We are rapidly approaching the Technological Singularity. The scariest part is that it seems damn near impossible to program a super intelligent AI with a set of morals and ethics to protect us from harm if it eventually decides we are a nuisance and chooses to eradicate us. How do you distill morals into an algorithm? How do you write ethical code? What kind of failsafes must we implement to ensure we retain control over our creations? These are, in my opinion, some of the most pressing questions of our time. Problem is... they're pretty damn tough.

Ai is the future defo, as it's going will be nearly impossible to stop people from making ai so we would need to regulate and make them so it's safe as possible for the human race. Everybody saying we shouldn't build let them as soon as technology makes advances other countries or terrorist organisations can use them against us so it's best we build regulate and prepare for the future.

 

Regulation will make it worse IMO. Potentially easier to smuggle or buy than to make. And there will always be people who want to make a quick big buck out of illegal technology.

Most of ai is already made and it is already here and a lot of companies are already using it. Lmao you can't turn back the clock it's already here mate.

You could apply that logic to anything, though. If AI is programmed for evil, then it's designed for evil. Anything can be designed for evil, so that's not really a point against AI specifically.

 

I'm just saying it's not a one way street.. I'm for the good AI, and against the bad AI. Just common sense considering there's probably no stopping it.
